So I work at Dairy Queen up here in glorious Ohio....and one of the customers was a yankee fan and started talking to me that he wasn't an A-Rod fan, not that I really gave a crap but I acted like I did and he just said he likes a winner. I just don't get it...when Tennessee wins, I get an extreme joy in my heart and it makes my day and that's all I can think about. Unfortunately it's all I can think about when they lose too. And Tennessee, as we all know, has been in a complete rut lately and I don't understand how some teams that cheer for winners can do that...do they even have pride, happiness for that team? Tennessee is a part of me and I could never say I'm not a fan of them anymore. I HATE losing as much as the next guy but even the ones that win all the time, still lose from time to time. Being a bandwagon fan seems stupid and pointless to me. Not to mention, you just don't have any pride for any team at that point. I don't know why I made this thread, I just felt like starting one about this...thoughts?

Bandwagon fans drive me crazy. People like instant gratification though and want to be cool and associate with winners. I couldn't ever bounce around from team to team though.

I understand what you mean. My brother is an Alabama fan in football and an Indiana fan in basketball. (barf)

Sadly especially in the South it seems there are a ton of fans for one team in football and another team in basketball. I know this topic has been beaten to death here, but it kills me when someone is a fan of a good football school and then switches to a good basketball school, i.e Alabama football and Duke basketball. Give me a break.

I backed into a car the other day that had a Vandy plate. I knocked that sucker clean off the bumper. I did offer to replace it with a power T. Cool story bro, but that's how you deal with bandwagon fans.:)

At least the fans who stuck with those two teams through the lean years can appreciate their current success. I can kind of understand it. No one likes feeling like crap every time they watch something that is supposed to be enjoyable. UT has the will and the resources to once again become a top ten program. Without that history and potential, most people here right now probably wouldn't care one bit about UT football. We don't exactly live and die by Southwestern Montana University of The Hillcountry football. That said, people who constantly change loyalties to whatever team is currently on top are annoying. How many Miami Heat fans did you know a decade ago?

most people have commitment problems IMO, and that also goes for sports. They don't want to be committed to a losing team, so they find a good one (kind of like somebody will ditch his gf when she gets fat for a hot chick)

^^ best analogy I could come up with that the masses on VN will understand

I understand southern bandwagon fans for pro soprts. Growing up many of us didnt have a team to root for. I liked watching the niners/celtics because when I was young they were great and fun to watch. My other geographic option was the Falcons and Hawks.
Having said that I now pull for the Grizz and Titans and am glad when those 2 teams do well.

Agreed. I grew up a Cowboys fan because they were on tv every Sunday. However, the stupidity of Jerry Jones and the Titans coming to town fixed that.

So you get cheaters (Bama) and self-righteous d-bags (Indiana). What a spectrum.

Of course, rooting for Indiana in basketball makes no sense. They're as irrelevant as anything over the last 20 years, last year notwithstanding. And definitely expect middling-mediocrity this next year.

Why does it bother you so much who other people cheer for? It's for their enjoyment, they can be a fan of whoever they want.

Mostly I don't but when someone is so transparent about rooting for someone, I think it's an insult to what I refer to as "real" fans of said teams.

Some d-bag who roots for a successful football team and then picks a completely different basketball team just because the basketball team is good is pretty much a loser.

If you're say a Vol fan and you "bleed orange" and like college basketball but root for say UNC over UT in basketball, I think that's incredibly lame.

Plenty of " Louisville" fans have popped up recently, claiming to be true fans. But can't seem to name any current players besides Russ Smith.

Because you're just not a true fan and obviously don't have passion for a team win or lose and that's stupid. I also find it pointless because even the big winners lose every now and then. Leaving a team because they're in a rut is like leaving a friend who's going through a hard time and needs support now than ever. And then you go back when they're better....and that's not cool at all.

Or those fans who say, "I rooted for Louisville in the NCAACG because they're from the Commonwealth." BS. Real fans pick a team and hate the rest, especially if they're home state.
