I was working today during game time (which wasn't such a bad thing after seeing the score) and I had a guy walk into the shop dressed head to toe in Georgia Bulldog gear. He bought something and whipped out a credit card with the bulldog logo on it.

When guys like that come in I like to talk to them, chat a little football and, rag them a little if they are up for it. So I casually asked the guy who Georgia was playing this week (I'm not up to date on ALL of the SEC schedules since I really only care about UT). He stared at me and said. "I think it's A&M"

Like I said, I don't know all of the schedules for the SEC teams but I certainly knew that A&M was playing Bama today and I told the guy this.

He gave me another blank look and then said that maybe it was the Longhorns, or the Auburn...or maybe even UAB. He finally settled for the Longhorns and walked out.

I looked it up. Georgia wasn't playing anybody this week.

Look, if you are going to dress up head to toe in Georgia gear as if it is gameday you should at least know the schedule of the team you root for! Otherwise don't call yourself a fan. Nothing ticks me off more than idiots who call themselves fans but don't even know squat about the team they supposedly root for.

Maybe the guy is just a casual fan. We have plenty here in the state that just represent the team and colors, and don't even follow the team.

I've seen hispanics with UGA tags, stickers, hats, clothes, etc. and they could not tell you who A. Murray is.

Georgia does have a lot of them. Especially in Savannah.

I don't understand how a "casual" fan pays extra to have a credit card with the Georgia logo on it. To me that shows devotion...except he didn't even know the schedule.

I'm not saying this is just a GEorgia problem, all fanbases have these people. It's just ridiculous.

Gator fans during Tebow were far worse.

I remember them. Ugh

I also remember my own family in Lousiana suddenly became Saints fans the year they won the Superbowl. I remember actually asking them to name ONE player and they couldn't but they claimed to be fans "all of their lives"

Good gracious.

Anyway, UT had their fair share of fans like this in the 90s. I ran into several people decked out in UT gear who didn't even know who UT played that day, or in some cases that they even played period.

C'mon, man. Football is not the only sport (though it IS the best). Maybe the "casual fan" has a daughter that plays softball or does gymnastics or something. They could be a huge UGa fan with very little interest in or knowledge of the football team. That is as much (actually more) reason to have a credit card with logo than being a die-hard football fan with no actual connection to the school.

Not trying to give you a hard time, but why so judgmental? Actually, I wish we had a men's athletic team that was good enough to attract some "casual fans". Oh well, maybe someday....

Casual Fans=Bandwagon Fans

They are fair weather fans that leave on the first sign of trouble. I don't want them in the Big Orange Nation around those of us that have been hardcore fans even in the troubling last few seasons.

So, now I need your permission to cheer for the Vols? Uh - no thanks, I think I will cheer for whoever the f%$# I feel like, whether you "want" me here or not.

Guy wasn't old enough to have a daughter in school there or anything like that. He was only a few years older than me (I'm 23)

I have never associated UGA and bandwagon fans.
Here in Nashville i hardly ever see UGA stuff compared to Bama, Ole Miss and even Miss St.

When I lived in Chattanooga there were a bunch of UGA fans but they werent very good back then

I agree. Only teams that win championships have bandwagon fans
