I've decided to learn the 5-string banjo. I have played electric and acoustic guitar for many years and am pretty decent with my finger picking. Does anyone have recommendations for online and/or book instruction?

TIA.

Also, I have a borrowed banjo from a friend but will be purchasing one soon if I enjoy learning. Suggestions welcome. Not sure if I'm ready to splurge for an upper-end Deering. Maybe something in the $500-700 range

A good Yamaha sound amazing. I like a resonator on it. Fits better to me and more comfortable. I’m still learning too but I like to be ole banjo.

Jim Pankey on youtube is great. Banjo Ben Clark has good online lessons for all levels. Save/wait a little more for a Recording King r35 or r36. Tons of reviews out there for them. You'll thank me later.
