Well I'm a member of Regions bank and have enjoyed totally free checking / debit card use since I got my first checking account in the early '90's. Well not anymore. Just got a notice that I will now have a monthly fee for debit card use as well as a monthly fee for checking account if I don't have direct deposits made totaling a certain amount.

I'd just like to thank all the fkng dbag politicians that help make this happen. Durbin, Obama, Dodd, Frank. Thanks you @ssholes.

Not only bank fees but next month expect your yearly mark up in beer from the distributors in Tennessee. That is how it is boys. They got us wrapped up.

Beautiful woman in your avatar BTW. Think she is my favorite I have seen on here.

You always paid for it by keeping your money with the bank and them earning interest off your money. Now you just pay a little bit more.

can't remember the last time I paid a bank fee. They tried not long ago and I called and had it credited. Easy to find a place without them

I use them also for a couple of my accts. and I got the same letter yesterday also. I think it went out to all Regions and Morgan and Keegan customers. The trick is to have a min of $25,000 in the acct and there will be no charge.

This fee is in response to the bank regulations they passed where they cut the debit fee transactions from 44 cents to 24 cents a swipe. Previously that money was coming from the retailer. Now we are making up the difference.

BOA did the same exact thing. They are putting accounts/households into tiers and if you dont reach the threshold to avoid the fee in that tier, they charge you. I was beyond pissed b/c I have multiple accounts, multiple direct deposits and have been banking with them since the early 90s. I had to agree that I would never speak to a teller in a bank location in order to avoid the fees.

Once they figure out how many accounts wont require a teller is when they start shutting down branches and start laying off thousands of people... Yea Dodd-Frank!

it says in the link that many have a minimum balance you have to hit of $1500. Just hit that, set your balance to zero in your head and pay no fees. That $25k number is a bit ridiculous

Statutory incidence. If the store is charged $.44, then they work that into the price of the goods you buy from them. You were paying through the retailer. Now you're paying directly to the bank.

My bank gives me interest on my checking account if I have at least 12 debit swipes/month. Kind of the opposite.

I have direct deposits into my account that prevent me from having to pay a monthly $10 fee. $10 fee! However, use a debit card for me requires a $4 fee. Almost $50 a year.

No doubt. When this whole system crashes better have money on hand. Cash is king as they say. you won't be withdrawing sh!t from the ATM.

Besides, this d@mn paper is about worthless already.

then switch banks or use a CC and pay it off each month. If a bank forced a fee on my for using a debit card they would instantly lose my business

I have Regions and have considered switching lately. I've also been with them since they were First American. They're trying to squeeze every penny they can out of us fella's then squeeze some more.

The banks get bailed out with all this money yet they pass none on to the people. Instead they keep it and turn to us to flip even more of a profit. Banks need to eat this cost instead of passing it on to us. We all know that won't happen tho.
I'm going tomorrow and switching to a credit union.

I can't remember the last time I used a debit card. It's never made any sense to me vs. using a credit card, earning rebates and paying it off at the end of the month.

I really need to go get a credit card. I just don't trust myself, though.

Chase did this a while back (I became a Chase customer when they took over WAMU).... I called customer service and tried to get it removed, they said no dice, so I left.

About a month later, got a call from Chase saying, if you open an account, we'll wave the fees... why didn't they think of that when I called them?
