With all the talk about Barnes and his ability to develope players, I look at the returning players from last years team and I'm not seeing it lately.
Pons- regressed
Fulky- regressed
JJJ- little to no improvement. Most disappointing player on the team.
Pember- not improved enough to find the floor
Ticket- not improved enough to find the floor
Plavsic- not improved enough to find the floor
ON-not improved enough to find the floor

Only exception is Vescovi- improved ballhandling and very improved on defense.

I'd say JJJ has improved significantly from last year, though he has had a rough stretch of games. I think it is more illustrative to look at Fulk and Yves' progression from their freshman years than from last year to this year when they had a weird, truncated offseason that may have included bouts with Covid. If there was ever a season that player development would suffer, it would be this one

Yes definitely an unusual off season to say the least but I'm not sure what your watching JJJ do that convinces you he has improved significantly.

Tonight he was off (as was everybody), but he's been a real menace on the defensive end most of the season, in a way he wasn't last year. So I think he's had a significant improvement on defense along with a minor improvement on offense from last year. I do feel like he's creating for others less than he did last year, but that might just be less time spent playing the point and an attempt to look to score more

The last 4 you bullet pointed (PTPO) just aren't high level players. They are 4 or 5 year players you hope to make a contribution before they leave at this point. Maybe ON will have the light click on because he has measurables. That is now part of the problem.

Yeah, I would go with improvement on defense and slight regression on offense. He just isn't scoring or creating on offense. Maybe he just in a funk and will come out of it.

I don’t see anything in ON that leads me to believe the light will come on. He’s timid

I agree but I guess you have to ask the question. Why do we have a 5 million dollar coach and that many project players sitting on the bench? I realize this question will offend a lot of you but it's like we carry two rosters. Top half is an SEC roster and the back half is a Southern Conference roster.

I think the roster creation since he became a $5 million coach is significantly different. The players in question were recruited prior to his raise. Since then, he has signed Jaden Springer, Keon Johnson, Corey Walker, Kennedy Chandler, and Jahmai Mashack. Hard to argue that he's settled for mailing it in on the recruiting front. There has been a struggle to close on our priority post targets, so that would be a fair criticism, but overall, he's recruiting on par with his salary.

He has recruited well but at some point you just don't need to sign another project. Hold a scholarship for an SEC calibur players till the next cycle. Leave Sacred Heart players with two inch verticals at Sacred Heart.

Barnes is a great coach and is 10-2 with a ragtag bunch of guys with some good young talent mixed in. Terrible night just like the Bama game. No way this team is a top 10 team in my opinion. The rankings are way too generous. But, at times, they seem like they can scrap with anyone. Then, they just have off, horrible nights.

He only recently started getting the 5 stars here. The last group of championship guys were underrated gems. I'm concerned about getting a legit big at this point.

It’s not unusual at high level schools. Most have about 8 guys that play legitimate minutes. Coach K has had that for years. His guys that are 9-13 don’t play and aren’t contributors. Calipari has been the same way.

The real problem is that we don't have a third post player.

Signing EJ Anosike, who has one year of eligibility, has no bearing on any player in the next cycle. He's a one-year commitment. Also, let's not pretend like Tennessee was the only school after him, either. Gonzaga, Louisville, Wake Forest, Georgetown, and Georgia were among others in pursuit.
