Barry Odom fired at Missouri

I guess we are the wrong fan base to be preaching patience, but IMHO they may regret this decision. Recruiting talent to Mizzou is tough, but Odom’s teams seem well coached and hard hitting. Mizzou is not exactly a coaching destination, and anybody they find that has success will be out the door the first chance he gets - Odom was pretty good and committed.

Kinda a surprising move to me. Idk how much better they can do than Odom. He was a Tiger through and through and seemed to have them headed towards the right way. Just a bad streak and maybe a bit of a knee jerk reaction?
He improved them each of his first 3 years. They still get 6 wins this year. They’re not that great of a program. But I think it’s clear the administration over there is ****ed up. Have to think their next hire will be worse

Pinkel was 22-25 in his first 4 years at Mizzou. Definitely a knee jerk reaction.

I think expectations were higher this year and last year considering their rosters. They really underperformed in the eyes of the admin and fans.

Mizzou should be prepared to be a dumpster fire for at least a few years. Not many coaches would want to come there given their recent history, plus players are going to look elsewhere given the situation. Not looking good for the tigers

Someone should probably tell them that 25-25 in 4 years is about as good as it gets for Mizzou in the SEC.

Really shocked they fired someone with Mizzou blood after going 6-6.
Yeah it’s a little odd, especially considering they’ve been a solid team since he took over. Plus they were riddled with injuries this year to some of their key positions. Not really sure how much better they think they can get at this point

I mean, here’s how they did under the previous coach, Pinkel (118-73).

2001 Missouri 4-7 (3-5)
2002 Missouri 5–7 (2-6)
2003 Missouri 8-5 (4-4) Independence Bowl
2004 Missouri 5-6 (3-5)
2005 Missouri 7-5 (4-4) Independence Bowl (W)
2006 Missouri 8-5 (4-4) Sun Bowl
2007 Missouri 12-2 (7-1) Cotton Bowl (W) Finish: #5/#4
2008 Missouri 10-4 (5-3) Alamo Bowl (W) Finish: #16/#19
2009 Missouri 8-5 (4-4) Texas Bowl
2010 Missouri 10-3 (6-2) Insight Bowl Finish: #18/#18
2011 Missouri 8-5 (5-4) Independence Bowl (W)
2012 Missouri 5-7 (2-6)
2013 Missouri 12-2 (7-1) Cotton Bowl (W) Finish: #5/#5
2014 Missouri 11-3 (7-1) Citrus Bowl (W) Finish: #11/#14
2015 Missouri 5-7 (1-7)

They might not (or might?) view this level of success as realistic, but they probably want to keep themselves from sliding back to the period where 2 to 4 wins was the norm like it was in the mid 80s through the 90s.

1, they weren’t in the SEC until the last few years of Pinkels career.

2, when they did join, UGA, UF, and UT were all down. The SEC East was an easy takeover. Hell, even SC won the East right around that time.

Mizzou will never, ever, ever see 10+ win seasons again as long as they’re in the SEC. Take that to the bank.

I mean the NFL doesn't just hire position coaches all willy-nilly. Da'rick Rogers, Justin Hunter, C.Patterson, Jason Croom, Pig Howard. He recruited some great ones here is all I'm saying.
A lot of times its more about who you know than what you know.

I think there might be a mistaken feeling that I’m trying to brag on Missouri in that post? I’m not. I’m just pointing out what those in charge of the program were probably comparing Odom to when determining whether or not they should keep him or if they felt they should look elsewhere for someone to do better.
