Watched the documentary on Bart Starr on SEC Network. It was great. I know he played at Alabama but I encourage every Tennessee fan to watch it. As I was watching it I thought we will see less and less of this because of NIL and transfer portal.

I will note that Bart was on the Board of Directors of a company my wife worked for. She always said he was one of the nicest people she had ever met. We still have a football he signed for her.

I'd be happy to watch. Also very happy that we've allowed people to earn money off their NIL. Anti American and capitalism to not want them to.

In the late 80s I saw him outside the Phoenix airport. I asked if I could have a photo taken with him. He was incredibly nice and talked for a couple of minutes.

Turns out we were on the same flight. If I remember correctly he owned car dealerships in Nashville at the time. As I walked through first class to get to coach, he saw me and called me by name.

I knew a guy that was grouse hunting sometime in the 80s and ran into him in the woods. Said he was super nice and they finished the day out hunting together

Namath and Starr were thorns in Tennessee's side during their Alabama days.

Like every other Bama QB with a few exceptions. Bart Starr, CLASS ACT, and as I kid, I remember watching the ICE BOWL on TV with my Dad. That game was something.
Here's a fact very few VOL fans know. Check out the roster for SUPERBOWL 1 (if you can only think in Roman Numerals, I'll let you be a little lazy and give a decimal to Roman conversion hint: Superbowl I)

There is a tight end on this team from Tennessee. Bill Anderson, who was John Ward's color commentator. Also, Bill Curry who coached at Bama and Kentucky was on that team.

Those Lombardi teams were fun to watch. Another thorn in Tennessee's side was on that team. Paul Hornung, a stud, but he beat Major's for the Heisman. I'm feeling lazy today, so I won't look up Hornung's record at Notre Dame, but that team he played on pretty much sucked, and Tennessee was good that year. Manning got the same treatment decades later. P.S. I also liked Hornung. He was a party animal and there are stories of him playing badly hung over. And still he kicked butt. He had Kramer and Nitschke blocking for him.

He was drafted in the 17th round of the NFL Draft. 30 Rounds in those days, 1956. That had to be a tense draft to wait that long and wonder.

I always thought he played for Bear Bryant, but Bryant was at UK during those years. The Bear actually held a grudge that Starr signed with Bama instead of UK. He barely played Starr in the Blue-Grey game in 1955. Bryant began reaching out to Starr in the mid 60s and they became cordial.

I used to really enjoy Hornung as a CFB color commentator when TBS was doing college football in the early 80s.

Ears Whitworth was the coach at Alabama when Starr played there. He failed miserable at Bama and was replaced by Bryant after the ?1956 or 57 season. Starr played at Sidney Lanier in Montgomery and I would not see why he would have had interest in UK.

Loved the Packers when he played then switched to the Raiders later. Good days.
