Alright, baseball is a different animal compared to other sports in regards to rosters, active rosters, scholarship $$ - all that type of stuff. Sidebar, NIL has been a blessing for baseball for sure.
Here's the deal: The online roster posted today by UT has 41 guys on it. The active roster Tennessee will submit to the NCAA the day before the first game will be 35 players + 2 COVID seniors (Camden Sewell & Christian Scott) who don't count against that number. So Tennessee will have 37 players on the active roster this season. Once that active roster is set, it's final. You can't add to it during the season and have to make due if injuries occur. That's why they always wait until the last minute possible to submit that each year to the NCAA.
The online roster will be more than that 37 number as redshirts will be present. There's no rules on how many players a program can put on their online roster, as none of that matters anyway.
There are also four true freshmen who are not listed on the online roster right now, but are a part of the team. They will redshirt this season. Those players are: Tanner Zellum, Brady Robertson, Bennett Myers and Payton Ebbing. Ebbing is a scholarship guy who is injured. If he wasn't injured, he would likely have been on the active roster.
Someone asked about the possibility of throwback uniforms this year. I asked and they said that's not likely. They did receive a fresh batch of uniforms, but they are the same uniform designs they already wear. Black, smokey grey and pinstripe uniforms will continue to be in the rotation.
