BaseVols vs Radford Tues. Game Highlights (WOW)
I agree. Our bats are scorching but what happens when they go cold. Our SS has accuracy issues and the catcher has a slow release. I believe TN is the best team in the country until another team proves they’re not but that issue mentioned earlier could cost them in a important game. Not to throw a wet blanket on our party, but for all of my fairly long life it is said that "up the middle is where championships are made". I have noticed that our catcher has not looked "top notch" nor has he shown me much throwing. Our SS looks to be "average" and doesn't throw near average. Now I know they both seem to be able to more than carry their weight at the plate, but in close games defense usually wins the day.
Is it my imagination, or is SS a little slow? Not foot speed but reaction time? If this is the case, it may be causing him to need to hurry his throws enough to effect accuracy.I agree. That is a wild record!I can't believe that neither 3 grand slams in a game nor 2 slams in 1 inning are NOT NCAA records. Both have been done before (but both tied the record). Those are just crazy stats. I don't ever remember seeing either of those happen in a game.
edit: Interestingly, the same records exist in the majors. However, 2 major leagers hit 2 grand slams in the same game:
Tony Cloninger is the only pitcher to hit two grand slams in one game, while Fernando Tatís achieved the unprecedented feat of hitting two grand slams in the same inning in 1999.
It seems he takes too many steps or is too nonchalant and doesn’t have any sense of urgency. However, I trust this staff to get any deficiencies corrected. Is it my imagination, or is SS a little slow? Not foot speed but reaction time? I was at the game. The players nor the fans seemed excited about the opponent. Not to throw a wet blanket on our party, but for all of my fairly long life it is said that "up the middle is where championships are made". Catcher doesn't have a slow release. Our pitchers don't hold runners/don't slide step because they are coached to worry about throwing the best pitch possible to the batter.I agree. You beat me to it. Our Catchers are behind the proverbial 8 ball when runners are on base bc of CFA philosophy. Which i am in complete agreement with. Don't worry so much about the guy already on base so much that you put another on base. But, I'm also in the camp of, if 1st and 3rd, throw the runner stealing second out and give up the one run instead of letting them have TWO runners in scoring position now, especially if there is already two outs. It's a conundrum.Catcher doesn't have a slow release. Our pitchers don't hold runners/don't slide step because they are coached to worry about throwing the best pitch possible to the batter.
Peebles has thrown out 5/11 baserunners on the year, pretty good in my book.
Probably correct. It does seem our pitchers are very deliberate with their pitches.Catcher doesn't have a slow release. Our pitchers don't hold runners/don't slide step because they are coached to worry about throwing the best pitch possible to the batter.
