Was reading Basilio today, and he has good points regarding Gruden and Hart.

Even in the Official Gruden thread, it seems like the effort to get Gruden is being led by the boosters / bags of money.

Is this true? And if so, is Hart happy to let that tick along without him? Or does he actually have enough personal involvement? Or is he preparing his own, independent coaching search?

If a coaching search subterfuge was in play (i.e. we have Gruden), why is Dooley still coach today? Seems like a well coordinated faux-search would get lots of good publicity for Vols culminating in a HUGE announcement akin to the opening of Dollywood.

Folks, Hart has me worried at the minute. I can't see the upside of Dooley still having an office at UT. And Basilio makes a great point - Hart is a control guy, and he has been a bull in a China shop so far. Not saying it wasn't partly needed, but he could be a real wild card in this.

I think that Basilio is like the rest of us....he needs something to talk about while we wait for D day.

What concerned me though was Basilio's comments seemed to have some strong correlations and parallels to the Official Gruden storyline.

What all Vol fans would like to talk about right now is Dooley packing his office. I see no upside, especially after Saturday, for the AD to be silent.

And that has me worried about Gruden and Hart.

OP, there are a lot of stories out there. Many of them conflict. There is also a lot of smoke re:Gruden. This Gruden smoke involves the Haslams, and they are the ones that matter most. Just rest easy knowing that they are going to bat for Jon Gruden's future here. If a deal with Gruden is possible, it will get done.

Keep in mind, that much of the information out there is likely misinformation, propagated to keep people from knowing what exactly is going on. I got nervous when no change was made after the South Carolina game, but the fact that nothing is happening this week is strangely reassuring.

Everyone in the state knows that Dooley is coaching his last season. They also know what there is likely a coaching search race going on between Auburn, Arkansas, & Kentucky, with a limited supply of competent coaches. If Hart and the big boosters feels comfortable waiting while everyone knows Dooley won't be back next season, it bodes well for the notion that Gruden is in the bag.

With all of the little details leaking out from two dozen different angles, it is helpful to keep the big picture in view.

It could also be said they want everyone to have the illusion of confidence while they continue to figure out who will actually come. I'm not saying the Gruden deal is dead but I would say the silence is being mostly spun in the way we like here at VN.

Silence is golden regardless of Gruden because it keeps people guessing and avoids the public rejections we've seen so recently.
I have reason to believe we've talked to other coaches. I question why that would be if Gruden was done.

I sort of like the whole theory that Gruden is already wrapped up and waiting to finish out his MNF schedule. I dont' think it matters if Dooley is announced fired now or not. He's still getting paid by UT regardless and has a chance to go to a bowl game. At least, even though the players aint dumb, it lets them focus on at least trying to get these last two wins.

Basilio can be credible, otherwise he wouldn't have an audience. I think it is way too early in the process to nail Hart. There are so many variables that he could be trying to control right now, that we will have no idea of his intentions until the next coach is named.

All you have to do is look at what happened the week Fulmer got fired to see why it might be a wise thing to wait another two weeks to fire Dooley.

Let Hart sort this out. I wouldn't want to be the one juggling all these balls

I have heard this too: Strong, Patterson, & Butch Davis. And it does seem a bit troubling if in fact it is true (see above); yet the Gruden rumors persist. One possible reason is that they want to make it look like a legitimate search was conducted so that it won't look like Gruden engineered Dooley's ouster. A second is that one of the candidates is black. A third is that Gruden will not be here forever ( I would be surprised if he stays more than 5 years), and it's best to build bridges with high caliber coaches for future reference.
