"A key personnel change is coming for Cuonzo Martin's Tennessee basketball program."

Callahan's tweet from GV247. Anyone know what he is referring to?

Looks like S&C coach, just my guess based on the pic in the link.

Kind of late for personal change, somewhat of an odd situation. I guess S&C wouldn't be too bad of a loss, don't get mr wrong I like him, but I'd rather lose him than any of our assistants.

According to Swain and Rucker Troy Wills is out as S & C coach. Apparently CCM wanted more upper body strength in his players and didn't get the results in players like Kenny Hall and Jordan McRae this past year.

I was curious if maybe they had a different view on S&C.

The workouts pearl ran are my h different than CCM, so that would definitely make sense that Willis didn't fit the mold CCM was looking for.

Well good luck to him!

I'm all for this. Glad to see Coach Martin holding people accountable. If he is not able to get these guys stronger, they won't be near the top of the SEC next year. We need both Kenny and Jordan to increase their production next year, as teams really key in on Maymon and Stokes. Jordan is in dire need of greater upper body strength and I'm sure he knows that, and wants to improve.

Maybe Kenny and jordy aren't solely to blame for not adding muscle since they've been here. It's been a need since day 1 for both, but if the weight program isn't set up properly maybe that was part of it.

Just a thought.

I remember when Pearl first got here, him saying the weight room for basketball was not good enough, and they let them use football's weight room iirc.

Id just let CCM do it, the thought of him just yelling push your self would make me piss my self.

part of 247 article:
Tennessee coach Cuonzo Martin noted a few times last season how he wasn’t pleased with the lack of physical strength — especially in regards to upper-body size — of many players he inherited from Pearl’s program. Martin’s teams play a much different style from Pearl’s, and the former longtime Purdue assistant and Missouri State head coach wanted to bring a more physical brand of basketball to Knoxville.

The program source who confirmed the decision to part ways with Wills also said Martin already has a list of “five or six” candidates — some he knows personally, some he doesn’t — in mind, and to expect the coach to move fairly quickly and have someone in place when the players return to campus in a few weeks.

The move was strategically timed to ensure the strength-coach search would take place during the players’ post-semester break, a time when most of them head home to visit family and friends before returning for the start of summer-semester classes in early July.

I used to hang out with Willis some when I lived in Knoxville. He said he had a real tough time motivating a lot of Pearl's players. However, he might just not be a great motivator. Just looking at a number of guys who passed through the system - the results weren't very obvious.

Troy is a great guy, I just don't think he was necessarily a go-getter and extremely intense like most S&C guys are. He was pretty laid back from what I saw when I was with the program. Very nice guy nonetheless
