I had no idea this one was played for a trophy. These two have only met 34 times, and it didn't become a yearly game until 1988. Pretty much it seems like the game's purpose is mostly to give Notre Dame another late season game in LA (for brand and recruiting purposes) during the years USC visits South Bend for their annual rivalry.
Well, Notre Dame has won the last 2 games and leads the series 20-13, and Stanford has won 3 of those last 5.
