The coaches poll that has Georgia ranked 7th is the reason that and the florida loss to Miss State jsut kills..

The Vols moved up a bit points-wise in both "human" polls, but dropped in the computer rankings mainly because UNLV, La Tech, and Florida lost this past weekend. The Florida loss is what probably hurt the Vols the most. I guess the Vols got Zook'ed.

Hopefully I can get this post up this time. My computer has crashed twice while trying to write this.

Tennessee rating fell from .6331 to only .6152 ... which would have still been good enough for 9th place last week. The Vols gained some points in both the AP and Coach's polls, but dropped a few places in the computer rankings.

AH_ 9 >> 10
BIL 5 >> 5
COL 7 >> 8
MAS 6 >> 9
SAG 7 >> 12
WOL 10 >> 11

Here's how a couple other teams changed over the weekend.
California .6733 >> .6428
Georgia .6090 >> .6195
Texas .6027 >> .6163

That means that 9 thru 11 is very tight. The Vols are only .0043 percentage points behind Georgia. The Vols are still rated higher than Georgia in the computer rankings. The very reason that Georgia is rated higher than the Vols is that some numbskull coaches have them 5 spots higher than the Vols. Georgia is 7th in the UE poll and the Vols are now 12th.

This sucks i see one team we have beaten infront of us and at least two others who i dont think would be no contest in a game.

I'd love to know who you think in the BCS top 10 would be no contest for us . . . :dunno:

I don't think there is such a thing as a cheap top 10 team after week 8.

I think we could handle cal, and wisconsin if played at neyland. Maybe Utah too

You forgot to add Fla State and Texas to that list.

Although none of the top 10 teams are cupcakes, I would favor the Vols over the ones mentioned.

With the exception of Fla State, I think Vegas would favor the Vols over Utah, Cal, and Wisconsin too.

Wisconsin reminds me alot of Alabama. Their defense doesn't give up alot of points, they grind it out on the ground on offense, and they don't have a very good passing game. Big 10 teams don't seem to have as much speed as in the SEC, and the Vols have faired well against the Big10.

Utah, well... they play in the Mountain West Conference. Sure they beat Texas A&M and Arizona... but who hasn't beaten Arizona this year? They score alot, but they also give up mucho yardage to opponents.

The Cal game would be the toughest of the 3. They've got a balanced offense and the only close game they've had was against no. 1 USC. However, they haven't played any other team that is decent besides USC.

And remember too, the Vols beat pretty much the same Miami team last year in the Orange Bowl.

Using the strength of schedule (SOS) formula used the past few seasons for the BCS, here are some interesting sos numbers...

06 - USC
15 - Oklahoma
04 - Miami
44 - Auburn
03 - Fla St
56 - Utah
88 - Wisconsin
37 - California
08 - Georgia
20 - Texas
07 - Tennessee

Tennessee, rated 11th, has a tougher schedule, according to the SOS formula, than the 5 teams directly rated ahead of them.

If Auburn beats Georgia, I think all shall be right. And Utah's ranking is a joke. Their schedule is so weak, they might as well be playing I-AA teams.

I was waiting for our opponets level to catch up to us. We were high in the computers because they figure in strength of schedule, now it catches up to us.

Here is what the current BCS rankings would look like under last year's formula:

1-USC 2.57
2-Miami 4.46
3-Oklahoma 6.05
4-Auburn 7.88
5-FSU 13.08
6-Utah 16.18
7-Wisconsin 19.20
8-Tennessee 21.34
9-Cal 22.54
10-Texas 22.54
11-Georgia 22.98
12-Texas A&M 25.86

and, here's a comparison to last season.

The BCS rankings of 10/25/03 and how they finished:
1-Oklahoma (8-0) -- No. 1 (12-1)
2-Miami (7-0) -- No. 9 (10-2)
3-Fla St (7-1) -- No. 7 (10-2)
4-USC (7-1) -- No. 3 (11-1)
5-Georgia (7-1) -- No. 12 (10-3)
6-Ohio St (7-1) -- No. 5 (10-2)
7-LSU (7-1) -- No. 2 (12-1)
8-Wash St (7-1) -- No. 16 (9-3)
9-Nebraska (7-1) -- No. 20 (9-3)
10-Mich St (7-1) -- No. 31 (8-4)
11-Iowa (6-2) -- No. 13 (9-3)
12-TCU (8-0) -- No. 18 (11-1)

Of the top 12 teams in the 10/25/03 BCS rankings last season, USC and LSU were the only ones that did not lose a game the remainder of the season.
