Bearden RB Devrin Young Commits to Tennessee!

Young is a faster version of Dennis Rogan. If Rogan could be a 2 year starter, then surely Young can contribute.

You don't offer kids scholarships in hopes that they can run the scout team.

I think he means that having a kid like this on the team that can at the very least contribute on special teams, possibly more, while giving you a guy to use on the scout team to prepare the defense for speedsters/elusive backs and receivers is never a bad thing.

I just got done reading his article on Volquest and watching his video.

Boy is he small but he straight lays out some big receivers in his videos.

I love some of these guys we are getting but we seriously are running low on numbers and we need more DT's and LB's...I hope all the numbers shake out.

I read on a thread yesterday that someone close to the program said we where going after 6-7 defensive backs this class. Don't know if it's true.

Not impressed at all. :disappointed:

I'm obviously not a scout, but I just don't see what makes him special. May be a great kid, but he doesn't look big, fast, or strong.

And that's against TN high school competition. He's not playing against great players.

He is a must offer. I haven't seen pure speed like that in a while.

Not sure what or how he will impact the team, but let him earn a spot. He is worth an offer.

They play Maryville tomorrow night at Bearden.

Any question about how good he is against real competition will be answered then. Maryville is and has been as good as any program anywhere over the past 8 years.

I'm not sure where the slow label is coming from, maybe not the greatest times in a 40 on a track. Some guys can post great 40 times. Others don't have the greatest 40 times, but lose nothing in pads, and pick up speed being chase.

On the field, Young is out and out flying. Ignore the other players, at this level it isn't a good gauge, but just look at the stride length for a guy his size in the open field. Its ridiculous.

Also, he doesn't lose any speed as he changes directions or swivels his hips. That's huge for a kick returner.

The pros and cons are all justified.

However, I would rather see him as a bust for UT than a star for another school - especially one in conference.

UT can't afford any more busts/risks in this class. We need depth. We don't need players who can't cut it in the SEC.

Evander Wells would have been in the D Young role if he had not torn his ACL. The staff is still looking for another slot R burner type as well.

If Nu'Keese could have avoided the Pilot that night, he really could have done some things here.

We need depth at kick returner worse than at tackle. So far this year, we've been 0 deep at that position. And the year before that.

You can win games without a decent kick returner. You wont win any without a talented tackle.

We can put bodies back there but to sign someone specifically for KR/PR when we have so much need for bodies on the DL/OL and in the linebacking corps? And cornerback.
