Are you serious? Watch Oku's high school film.

Yes, I am.

I know what you are saying.

But Young has pure speed in every direction. It's rare. Do I wish he was 5-11, 188. Heck yes, but he isn't.

I still say he is a must offer.

UT can't afford any more busts/risks in this class. We need depth. We don't need players who can't cut it in the SEC.

This. If you are going to take a 5'7 kid to only return kicks in this class...I just don't like that. If you think he can contribute at CB or RB, that's fine. But we can't take just a returner in this class. Maybe for 2012/2013, but not 2011.

I am thrilled with this. He reminds me a LOT of Brandon James, and is in the Devin Hester mold. If all he does is impact KR's, a scholly is more than worth it.

I think he means that having a kid like this on the team that can at the very least contribute on special teams, possibly more, while giving you a guy to use on the scout team to prepare the defense for speedsters/elusive backs and receivers is never a bad thing.

Exactly

Devin Hester ran a 4.29 and was shifty as all get out. He's also 5'10/5'11 185-190. Just because we sign a return specialist does not mean he is in the mold of one of the greatest returners of all time. It's easy to make small competition look bad, Hester does it in the NFL.

so you would still give CD a scholarship? There were reasons behind CD's 5* that didn't have to do with his play

At that time i would have- Hindsight is 20/20!
Any school in the country would have taken Chris Donald.
Notre Dame and Alabama both wanted him.
He was the #1 prospect at LB in the nation.

I'll roll the dice on a player who could be the the spark we need on special teams. Carl Pickens isn't walking through the door anytime soon.

You can win games without a decent kick returner. You wont win any without a talented tackle.

I'm fully aware of that.

However, we have a talented tackle - Hughes. And Walls will be back next year from his injury.

We don't have any players on the team that have been productive kick returners.

This kid is shifty and makes people miss in the open field, I don't know the first thing about high school ball in that area so I can't comment on the competition. He looks very quick and his burst into full stride is amazing. Whether or not that makes him SEC material is beyond me, I'm no scout but this staff obviously thinks he can contribute and he obviously wants to be here.

We do have some glaring needs and his offer list isn't great. Does that mean we found something that others missed or does it mean that we are reaching?

Not impressed at all. :disappointed:

I'm obviously not a scout, but I just don't see what makes him special. May be a great kid, but he doesn't look big, fast, or strong.
Let's see he's an inch shorter than Demps.
Demps shrunk an inch after high school profile.
Demps runs a 4.46
Young runs a 4.5
Who Knows.
Might make a skat.
Looks quick to me.

2 DTs is all we need? Interesting...and it's not a given that Walls will respond well after coming back from that Achilles injury.

It is taking a spot that we should be cherishing and worried about filling it with quality depth.

We found something others haven't expressed interest in yet - senior year is less than half over including play offs, and there have been no post season All-Star games.

And we are reaching a little if we were counting on him to fix a depth issue at running back. The kid is size is his size. I don't by into the 'plays big.' A kid's size is what it is.

But we need to improve speical team help so bad that it doesn't make sense to let a kid in the backyard go elsewhere without offering him.
