Unfortunately he's up against Michael Jordan, John Stockton, David Robinson, and Dennis Johnson. Maybe being a streetball legend holds some weight with voters.

If the voters would listen to other HOF members like Larry Bird, King would be in. Bird said King was the best he ever played against. As for me Bernard King is one of the greatest basketball players ever.

I had the opportunity to have a conversation with Jeff Turner, former Vandy player, when I was in highschool. He told me that Bernard King was the best offensive player he faced in the NBA, so add his vote to the list, whatever it is worth.

I remember when King was with the Knicks in a playoff against the Pistons he scored 20 straight points - 10 straight offensive posessions and had 50 for the game then held the MSG scoring record of 60 until Kobe broke it this past week. I think 40 of those points were in the first half. I contend as far as basketball players go he is the best the SEC has seen and one of the best 50 in the pros in the history of the game. Remember when he played in the movie Fastbreak with Gabe Kaplan? He was a basketball star in that movie. Quickest release I have ever seen bar none.

I read somewhere that all sixteen finalists could be voted in. King is everything TN Basketball should stand for. I am SO glad Bruce reached out to him and we retired his jersey. That was a magical night.

EDIT: Gentleman Jack, I agree wholeheartedly.

Bernard King is the best thing to happen to Tennessee Basketball.

Pearl knew that, and bringing him back into the program is one of the smartest things he's done since he arrived.

I remember watching him play in the NBA and wondering what he could've accomplished without the knee problems, but I regret that I wasn't able to watch him in college when he was beating Kentucky 3 straight years and doing it with style.

Longevity is fighting against him, but I view him like Koufax. Over a short period, be was the best player in the game. Quite possibly the quickest shooter ever.

The Basketball Hall of Fame voters are about as bright as the geniuses who voted Dane Bradshaw onto the All Century Team. Any group of people who inducts Lou Carnesecca and excludes Jerry Tarkanian has the credibility of Rafael Palmeiro.

Was not aware. Need to get it, as I was so young that the E-B show is a faint memory to me. Even Reggie Johnson and Ellis are tough to recall well.

What's it called?

I doubt there is anything compiled. Nothing was televised during the weekdays then and only one SEC game of the week was televised on Saturdays. Only film (and not video tape) is most likely whatever clips the local news channels took for the evening news/sports after the game.

I was at UT during the E-B show. I haven't seen anything like them in the SEC since that time.

Good luck to King.
