Best anti virus/anti malware for Android?

Do you really need it?

Reviews are saying AVG is good and free for antivirus. I've used it on my laptop before and it worked great. I ultimately switched to Microsoft Security Essentials.

For Malware I'd get Malwarebytes for Android which I believe is also free. I currently use this program on my laptop and can say that it by far superior.

Malwarebytes is great, and free.

Malwarebytes is great. They also offer a paid version that protects you in real-time as well. Personally, I run AVG with the free version of Malwarebytes for anything that slips through. Hasn't failed me yet.

I recently read an article that tested some 20+ popular anti virus programs. Here's the article.. Might make you want to think twice about MSE since it tested at the very bottom. I use and suggest BitDefender. It was one of the top 2 and had a 99.8% block rate. I suggest it because it has a free version and it doesn't tax your PC's resources. Android also has it as a free app.

Thanks again for all the help.

If anyone else has suggestions, I would ask that you please post them. Others might have this same question now or later.

Quit lookin at them porny pitchers. You know that's what's blowin it up.

LOL. No way I'm giving up the pron!

Seriously, I haven't had a problem. I just realized that I haven't installed anything on my Galaxy or the wife's Tab. I've always used AVG on my desktops and laptops and had no problems. Maybe I don't need anything, but better safe than sorry.

Interesting. I think a lot of it depends on how they do the testing. I haven't had any trouble as of yet with MSE. Everything I've run into so far has been malware related. I've heard excellent things about Bit Defender and Kaspersky over the years but they are both subscription programs.

That photo came from this review. Granted it is from last year.

The biggest complaint for MSE is it's active scan speed which it makes up for by using very few resources.

Google has a virus scanner on uploads and downloads, and periodically checks apps when they are verified and checking on updates.

If you steal apps from a different app store, you might want to run some sort of virus/malware scanner. Otherwise, it's a waste of resources on your phone.

There's no need for it. If Google finds something, they will yank it off the store and your phone.
