Hatvol's post about IU and UM in 93 got me wondering what team or teams would be the best ever?

For football, my top 2 in my lifetime were 1995 Nebraska and 2001 Miami... Nebraska was a little more dominant over the course of th season, but I think if they played head to head, Miami would get the job done on the Husker option.

Being in Ohio, I have been told on more than one occasion that 2002 OSU was the best team ever because they had the best ever record.

same here...though the head to head would be questionable to me. that Neb team was really good.
having said that, Miami that year, as good as they were, almost laid two eggs. but they always stepped it up in the big games. i'd have a feeling they'd show up...it would be a great game for sure.

in bball??? so many to choose from. Duke has one or two, KY has one or two in there...the UNLV teams that were mentioned were really good....that georgetown team was a great team....i'll defer to the bball experts on that one though....

Exactly... I think the 2 close games were a result of Coker not being able to motivate them... But after the first close game they took care of the motivation themselves...

The two games that impress me most.

#13 Syracuse on an 8 game winning streak
59-0
# 14 Washington only team to beat them the year before.
65-7.

Back to back games most lopsided 2 straight games against ranked teams I believe.

Then VT almost caught them napping, but once again, in the title game, it wasn't even close.

the VT game i could understand...they were a pretty good football team.

the one that i couldn't forgive them for is the BC game and that crazy fumble returned for a TD....BC was about to win that game....every NC team needs a little luck generally, and they made the play and all...but man, does it get any flukier than that???

I remember Ed Reed ripping the ball out of his teamates hands... LOL. But the luckiest team I can think of won it all the year after.

I can't think of one game where the 1995 Huskers needed a lucky play... (then again, I didn't watch the games, as I was only 4, but I have seen how they matched up against their schedule.

4 years old in '95??? jeez i feel old. i was a jr at TN at the time. holy cow.

the 95 neb. team demolished every team on their schedule, bowl game included. there was no doubt as to who was the best team in 1995. there was no luck, they were just good.

now the 97 neb team that won a share of the NT...they were lucky...the kick bounce TD against Mizzou...i'll never forget that play. that was Neb's Stoener fumble for that year.

Even with the break against BC, there wasn't any doubt in 2001 who the best team was either.

I still think Michigan was the best team in 1997. Great defense... Their game play resembled that of the 2002 Buckeyes with less flukes..

And before anyone asks, yes, I will take any shot I can at that team.

i never bought in to either one to be honest....i wouldn't call either of the dominant. now having said that, We did play Nebraska and they wiped the floor with us, so my only frame of reference says that Neb was pretty good that year.

LOL, neither team overpowered everyone, but I think Michigan had the edge, led by the Heisman winner in a year they DID get it right.

ah hell, so you were only six when Neb and Mich split the title...what do you know?:p

Actually, I remember watching us get smacked around, and I remember watching Michigan against Penn State, OSU, and WSU int he Rose Bowl. The PSU game was very impressive.
