What do you guys in the Knoxville area use for internet service? No cable TV anymore, and my wife works from home, so we just need fast reliable internet service. I'm currently using AT&T Uverse for internet and it would be easiest just to move that over, but if there is a better option now's the time to switch.

Thanks VolNation!

You are probably limited depending on where you live. Most likely your only other option is Xfinity. As much as I dislike the company, I will say their service has been much more reliable over the past few years.

I have no complaints with WOW for the last 2 years. $65 for 500 down with no caps (today's pricing anyway). You might have that available around there. TDS is also nearby that area so it's a slight possibility as well. They have fiber in some spots. And Charter may be your other choice depending on exactly where you end up. You'll probably have 2 or 3 of these to pick from. They all work just fine. Xfinity has data caps.

If you have a choice between Charter and anyone else choose anyone else. I've had an on again off again affair with Charter and their Internet service. When it works it works great and is super fast, but that's the problem, it isn't reliable. I have probably had 20 service techs to my house over the past 10 years or so to fix the intermittent burps where it quits working for 1-10 minutes at a time 5 or 6 times a day with varying levels of success. The last guy that came a couple of years ago actually made it reliable until the last month or so and now I'm back to the 1-10 minute of interrupted service.
Trust me it gets really irritating trying to watch a video and have it freeze for minutes at a time. I actually have an unlimited wireless hotspot that I use more often because it actually works. I'm honestly thinking about blowing off Charter and just using the hotspot.

AT&T is not available at the rental house, so just an easy transfer is out. We had a 1TB cap and never came close even with streaming TV.

I'll look into all of these (well, maybe not Charter) for sure.

You don't have a data cap anymore? Hogwash.

I have tds fiber and it's very good. I consistently get the speeds I pay for, which should ideally be the case with any fiber plan.

I'd prefer almost anyone to Comcast. Unfortunately on post, that's all I can get.

ATT just dropped fiber lines through our neighborhood and several others. I'd imagine this is limited access for now though. From what I hear Xfinity can offer higher speeds over cable than ATT can over ISDN lines.

The fastest service I can get is Comcast 300mbps. Always use your own modem Providers equipment is cheap and the root of many connection problems. This service is pretty hot and no problems since it was connected. It depends on how many simultaneous users you have as to how much download speed is needed. A family of 4 with smartphones needs over 100mbps to avoid streaming freezes, this has been my experience. ATT only offers 25mbps in my area, no Wow service but heard the high speed is good and of course the optical cable is the best and worth the money at 1,000mbps.

We are going to be renting in the Northshore/Bluegrass area at first.

At AT&T.com, you can check available services at addresses which you are considering. I've found that AT&T offers better deals for bundled services (Internet + TV, Internet + mobile, etc.). They waive fees and provide other perks to customers who are moving. They've been deploying fiber and upgrading Internet delivery equipment. Where they've done so, their latest Internet offerings are "cleaner" and better priced in my opinion. I read where AT&T installed new equipment into older condos and apartment complexes with existing coaxial cabling and are able to offer speeds up to 500mbps. If you move into a multi-family community, ask if it is targeted for service upgrade of this nature.

*Comcast burned me so bad, I will not give them my business ever again.

We are renting a house, and AT&T wasn't available other than home phone and DirecTV, neither of which I want. I also checked and we were paying more for 18mbps service through AT&T than the companies I looked at in Knoxville charge for 300mbps. So, no more AT&T internet.

After comparing prices on WOW and TDS I went with TDS. 300 mbps service there is cheaper than I was paying here for AT&T. Thanks for the recommendations, everyone! I owe some beers in a few weeks.
