My wife and I are wanting to take our dogs to a lake or body of water that we can all swim in as a family. Obviously, we are from Chatt. so we don't know where to go. Our old complex had a pool so we never worried about it. Where are some good places to get in some water in Knoxville? Pet friendly preferred, and shallow enough that a dog can just kind of wade into it.

There are a few places I can think of. Concord Park AKA The Cove, they have a roped off area during summer time that's designated for swimming(unsure if dogs are allowed IN the swimming area but the park is dog friendly. Melton Hill Park(Take Hardin Valley Rd. and head west to get there).
Norris lake is notoriously the "cleanest" of the Knoxville lakes if you don't live too far from it, but that's getting picky imo.

There is no real shortage of access to lakes around Knoxville.

You'll be hard pressed to find a pet friendly public pool if it's not completely impossible.

If you are all strong swimmers, I would try the Little River in or very near the GSMNP. I would not set foot in any of our lakes.

I've swam in the Tennessee River (Lake Loudon) for 20 years and I haven't grown a third leg or anything yet. I think you are exaggerating a bit.

Norris is a beautiful, clean lake. If you don't mind the drive (30 min or so) you've got Anderson Co. Park. Norris dam state park, and Big Ridge state park. All great for swimming and other activities.
