Right now, he is. He’s our best passer and defender in the post. While ON had a great game or two, Fulky is also probably our best offensive player in the post. BHH and ON can certainly get better and contend for it.
Couldn’t disagree more. Though I think he is def a Vfl and genuinely good guy he is so weak on both ends of the floor. He flops and flails when touched. His first two post shots vs the powerhouse uncg were air balls. He has been here for 6 years now and plays more mins than ON and BHH but his stats are worse than ON plus he can’t shoot the 3 or really from anywhere. What is the fascination with this guy and the fact that he is so good? Did you see the stats I posted?

Only Chandler has a better FT percentage. By far the assist leader of the post players. Rarely fouls. 52% FGs. Tied with JJJ with the most rebounds.

I did, and Fulky’s are better. Thanks for providing the evidence.

7.9 points, 81% from FT line, 6.3 rebounds, 1.9 blocks, 2.5 assists…

He leads all big men in every category than one-ON averages 8.1 points because he had one big game. Fulky averages more assists than ZZ and 0.8 less than Vescovi.

I have no idea what you are looking at.

Did you notice the minutes per game played? Guess not, btw you can’t take away the one big game anyone had, it did happen you know.

ON plays 6 minutes LESS per game and has almost identical stats, I would say overall better, and you still want to argue that fulkerson is the best post? 🙄

I use my eyes. ON does not have the assist and block stats. Fulky does more than score and rebound.

There is a reason ON has played less.

Why don’t you explain it to me
Leadership, communication, accountability are a few things that he excels at that don’t show on the box score. But watch how the team moves and functions with him out there. Rotations are crisper, people are in the right place more often and execution (not meaning shots made) is all around improved with him out there. It’s pretty simple to see.

I’m honestly not trying to rag on you or insult you. I’m just saying it’s obvious if you’re watching. [Edit: reread how this was written, it sounds condescending. I apologize, I really don’t intend for it to be, just not sure how to reword it.]

All that being said, Fulk still needs to play better. If he can have sustained health, we know what he is capable of.

Fulk is comparable to the other bigs and played in more important moments (and missed a cupcake game) meaning that some of his numbers will be lower at a per minute rate at this point in the season than BHH/ON; I still voted him as best because he’s best at help defense with a low usage rate. I would say ON is at a similar talent level at this point though which is why his minutes have increased a lot; his 3 PT shooting is the reason why some advanced stats like him slightly better. BHH will be the best in time but I think he isn’t in games as much because his team defense and spacing are a work in progress

I’m not denying the leadership qualities fulkerson possesses but I don’t see better rotations and people in the right place most often falls on the point guard not the post. In my opinion Fulkerson’s production has diminished, last year the fulkerson fanatics blamed it on COVID, I wonder what it will be blamed on this year.

Fulkerson commits a lot fewer fouls than ORN. Barnes is a stickler with that and no doubt a lot of other details on defense that average fans like me wouldn’t notice. Those things translate to more PT for the more experienced players. This might be one of Tennessee’s greatest defensive teams ever and unfortunately it’s not getting the appreciation it deserves.

Completely fair, but I was referring more to on defense (which he is the QB for) on the rotations/right place comment. That's definitely not the PGs job.

And yes, his production has diminished. His body/athleticism just isn't what it used to be unfortunately. Many many injuries can take that even in young, high energy D1 athletes. I know my 4 knee surgeries, 2 shoulder surgeries and 2 ankle surgeries have left my body in a much different state than it was. It stinks, but unless his body gets right, I think this (minus some random scoring outbursts) may be his peak moving forward.

Now to your original question, can any other posts begin to out-play him and become the better/more valuable post for this team? Absolutely! And we need that to happen. But as it currently stands, Fulk is still the most vital/important to the team beyond what he adds to the box score and it's not even close yet. I truly hope that to change as the season goes out OR I hope that Fulk regains his physical health and becomes a beast again.....or secretly, I hope both of those things happen! GBO!
