Who is it? Current top 3:
Kendrick Lamar
Eminem
Kanye West

I haven't stayed on top of things in Hip Hop since basically my college days, but I would definitely say Kendrick Lamar is #1 and that neither Kanye or Eminem are in the top 3. But IDK who belongs in the top 3. Probably Jay Cole. If we're just talking most successful, then Drake.

Going to see Kendrick Lamar in May. $150 to get in the door and he's playing the Cardinals stadium. Insane. Guy went from the rapper's rapper to the people's rapper.

Hope you have fun at the concert! These are just my opinions, sorry they are horrible.

I have pretty much been listening to the same rap now that I did as a teenager.

Wu Tang
3 6 Mafia
Tribe
Del the funky homosapien
Del la soul
Nas
etc.

I don't even know who Kendrick Lamar is.

Well, he's the GOAT, but he's also not for everybody. You've definitely heard him. Some people don't like his voice but lyrically and creatively, there is no touching him, IMO. He makes interesting concept albums. He's very introspective. "Damn" won a Pullitzer prize. His latest GNX is a no-skip album, which is pretty hard to find (for me, anyway). Whatever you do, stay away from Mr. Morale. Definitely not for everybody.

This was the biggest song of 2024. Not rap song. Song. Last year we all witnessed the greatest annihilation in a rap beef that has ever happened.

Pretty Good

Definitely not GOAT worthy imo but he does have a Unique voice though. You are right, no skip albums are difficult to find especially for hip hop artists. You ever listen to blackalicious?

I started laughing when I read the thread title. For me, this was the equivalent of "Smartest Moron."

Before anyone gets triggered, I was laughing at my reaction mostly. Fully aware it is generational and I am glad those who like this stuff like it passionately.

Admittedly, rap is not my genre of choice, but I am a fairly experienced musician. I don't understand the hate for Eminem. His ability to rhyme, create rhythm with his voice, and the inflection he uses to tell stories is impressive.

Macklemore, Kendrick, Chance, Cube, Bone Thugs, Cypress, Snoop, Dre all also have some unique talent.

Eminem is the GOAT rapper and it isn't really close. Even most rappers agree. He can't be touched.
Agreed.

I will say Wayne had a mean little run going about 15- 20 years or so ago. I remember he was dropping a new mixtape every month. Just killing it!

I rarely listen to rap anymore. But I’ll have friends send me newer stuff from EM. I’m just blown away. He’s an alien or something

JID out of Atlanta is my favorite right now. He's as good as anybody doing it right now.
