Rick is just an easy person to talk with. He maintains eye contact the entire time which is lost in today's society. I ALWAYS feel like Rick is being completely real and honest when talking to him. Not to mention...incredible sense of humor (he's not beyond joking with you about hair, or lack of, etc etc etc... 😂 😂)

Posted this in another thread. He had a great story from the Big Orange Caravan stop in Memphis back in May.

Rick Barnes was approached by Doug Dickey to be Tennessee’s next coach to replace Devoe.

Barnes was highly interested and was prepared to accept Dickey’s offer and fly to Knoxville to attend an introductory press conference.

But before that, Rick called the Big East Commissioner at the time and the commissioner said “Why would you want to work for a helmet head?”

Barnes ended up not accepting the position and UT hired Wade Houston instead.

Interesting. Pat Kennedy at Florida State was Dickey’s top choice. Barnes must have been #2. It ultimately ended up as a choice between Wade Houston and Leonard Hamilton. Hamilton had just finished his third year at OK State. 8-20, 14-16, and 17-13. He was an assistant at Kentucky for more than a decade before that and eventually the associate head coach for Joe B. Hall. Dickey wanted to hire Hamilton. Lamar Alexander overruled DD and made him hire Wade. At least it ended up being a package deal with Allan - but that wasn’t guaranteed since Allan had already signed with Louisville. UL didn’t want to let him out of his LOI.

We went to the Big Orange Caravan in Franklin during the summer of 2016... My son and wife went to get botch's autograph while I stood on guard duty at the beer table and CRB came over and asked if I wanted his autograph... I laughed and said no sir... CRB said well the AD is right over there and it will help me out if he sees me giving you one.
