We always talk about how California, Texas, and Florida, and of course some other states like Georgia, Louisiana, and Alabama, are all big time states when it comes to football recruiting. What are some states that are always big when it comes to basketball recruiting?

Tennessee is a much better state for producing D1 talent in basketball than it is in football. Mainly because of the Memphis and Murfreesboro aeras.

Kind of easier to think of it by city for basketball recruiting:

Texas, Ohio, Florida, California, Virginia/DC, Illinois in no particular order...

Also, North Carolina, Tennessee, Indiana, Georgia and NYC

but it is possible to find good talent the smaller states more so for basketball than for football.

The previous poster had it right about big cities. New York, Philly, Baltimore/DC, Memphis, Chicago, LA, Houston, Atlanta. Those would be your major basketball cities that produce a lot of D1 talent. As far as states go, Indiana, Illinois, North Carolina, Kentucky, New York/New Jersey are probably the most basketball-crazy states that have great high school programs.

Thanks I was just wondering what states and I forgot to ask which cities produce the most d-1 talent as well. But thanks.

Doesn't Los Angeles produce alot of D-1 talent as well? Never mind I misread one of the posters about LA being a big city.

TN high schools actually do a pretty good job of sending kids to D-1 colleges. Memphis definitely reigns supreme, but the whole state is pretty solid. Nashville, Chatanooga, and Knoxville hold their own too. Clarksville usually has a standout player or two, as do Rutherford/Sumner/Williamson/Madison/Blount counties - among many others. This isn't an exact figure, but I scanned over the past few recruiting classes out of TN and I counted at least 25 players that are on rosters which made the tournament this year. Keep in mind, that doesn't include the SEVERAL kids that signed with UNC, Memphis, UConn, George Mason and other recent final 4 contenders that fell short of the dance this year. Another fun fact: TN kids will be in 4 of the 8 games coming up this weekend. I don't know how we rank compared to other states (IL,OH,CA,VA,FL are probably tops), but we certainly have a darn good basketball recruiting base here in the Volunteer State.

7 schools from Texas were in this years tourney. They may not all have rosters full of homegrown boys, but there's talent over here.

Tennessee I actually feel is pretty strong when it comes to basketball talent---Tennessee, Memphis, ETSU, MTSU, Belmont, UT-Chattanooga and Austin Peay are all schools that have made it into the tournament the last few years.....Memphis is particularly loaded with basketball talent (being from there I can tell you) I think the Tigers have the number #1 recruiting class signed for next year if I recall....

There is enough talent in Tennessee for the Vols to be successful. I have been to the TSSAA Boys State Tourney a lot over the years. I have seen a ton of great basketball players in Murfreesboro over the years. Memphis is one of the best cities in America for basketball talent. UT needs to keep trying to get players out of Memphis. Nashville,Murfreesboro,Jackson,Clarksville,Chattanooga and recently Knoxville has produced some D1 talent.

Here are some kids I watched at the TSSAA Tourney over the years.

Out of Memphis

Tony Harris
Robert O Kelly
Earnest Shelton
Derek Byers
Dane Bradshaw
Shawnee Williams
JP Prince
Terico White
Pierre Niles
Joe Jackson
Adonis Thomas
Chris Jones
Thad Young

Here is some other kids I saw.

Corey Brewer Portland
Tyler Smith Giles County
Brandon Wright Brentwood Academy
David Harrison Brentwood Academy
Julian Terrell Ezell Harding
Jamont Gordon Glencliffe
Keith Ramsey Siegel
Trey Pearson South Fulton
Ron Slay Pearl Cohn
Wayne Chism Bolivar
Willie Kemp Bolivar
Jarvis Varnando Haywood County
Tony Delk Haywood County
Richard Delk Jackson Northside
Reginald Delk Jackson Northside
Ron Mercer Goodpasture
CJ Black Chatt Brainerd
Harris Walker Brainerd
Vincent Yarbrough Cleveland
Del Harris Cleveland
Shawn Marion Clarksville
Trenton Hassell Clarksville
Kirk Haston Perry County
Jalen Steele Fulton

That is a lot of talent. I alway said if UT could get the best instate players to stay at home and cherry pick other places the sky is the limit. I love the fact that UT is raiding Georgia right now. Atlanta is one of the best cities in America for basketball talent.
