** Mods, please move if needed, because I know this is an odd forum for this question, but I figured it would get buried on FF. :hi:

So after the first year of affordable cable TV-internet-phone, with the charges about to double, we're dumping all but internet.

Since we will be having to figure out how to watch sports (which is literally all that we watch, other than occasional HGTV for shizz and giggles) on TV via a computer, what is the best setup, and what will we probably not be able to watch?

This is pretty much all we follow:
- Vols and Lady Vols, of course
- other SEC teams when bored
- MLB
- NBA
- NFL sometimes

How do we do this??

I don't mind paying a legitimate source, as opposed to sketchy sites with .ru domains, bad resolution, and viruses galore.

Please assume complete ignorance on our part, which would be accurate.

Mlb.com has a streaming feed of games. I don't know much about it as far as quality or fees.

Buy a ticket and go to the game :)

Well, this works better if you live in Knoxville and don't work two jobs, but yeah...

Of course, then I'd been dealing with people Standing Up in Front of Me and Blocking My View, which would mean keeping that FF thread going, so you really don't want me to do that, do you? :p

I would just mooch off someone else's cable TV subscription, but unfortunately, my son-in-law now mooches off of mine, so that's awkward.

Get a friend with cable access to share their espn mobile stuff with you. I know people that do it with HBO but honestly basic basic cable is cheap and for the value not a bad option to retain and you'll get some prime time games etc.

I cut cable about 8 months ago. I get almost all UT games on Watch ESPN app on my Apple TV. I use my sister in law's log in.

NFL, MLB and NBA games are tough to find good streams but if you don't mind watching blurry ones, you can find them all.

UT games are what I care about most so I've been pleased

I'm pretty sure there's a thread about this in the Pub. I'll see if I can find it.

I'm not sure there's a legitimate source for all of those events at present. MLB and NBA offer streaming packages for the season.

Edit: Here's the most recent I could find. There may be another one somewhere.

I just saw your edit and link. thanks!

I'm now considering keeping Charter and just selling our log-in to others in this situation. :)

I don't know, Rob Lowe seems to be working overtime promoting Direct TV as an alternative to cable. Is there a more over played commercial out there than this one?

Bar wth a pretty waitress = heaven. Buy less beer and food for the house. Kids can live on grilled cheese.

Roku, get someone with dish to give you their code for viewing online. It works.

In the end, it all seems to come down to having the code for viewing online. Everything else --broadcast HD with an antenna, Roku, etc. --is pretty much background noise, although definitely useful to know.

I'm amazed that no one has figured out how to hack around the necessity for the code! Although I suppose being allowed to give your code to up to 12 people or whatever it is removes the incentive for a hack.
