Dolly Parton Awarded $100M Prize by Jeff Bezos 'To Do Good Things'

This is sort of awkward for two reasons: first, this is like 25% of dolly's reported net worth. Usually awards are more for recognition and not granting the receiver a personal fortune of their own. No doubt, dolly does deserve the money and the recognition, but seems to kind of minimize the fortune she earned by her own work. Secondly, bezos undoubtedly has money to burn, but is bolstering the fortunes of the already fortunate the best use for this money? There are people and causes out there with genuine need.

Did you even read your link or are you just a bitter person? I'm betting on the latter.

Dolly will do more good with that money than almost anyone would.

The whole reason he gives the money to people like Dolly is to distribute to charities in need. Not to pocket. That is the purpose of the money.

WTH with all the Dolly bashing on VN? I'm guessing several posters know only two things about her. Under the surface, she has always been extremely involved in philanthropy, with much of her money and efforts focused on the underprivileged/rural/disaster-striken families of East Tennessee. Her literacy program is also nationally-acclaimed, having now distributed over 100 million children's books, free of charge.

She could use it after all that money she threw away giving to BLM!

Dolly is a Tennessee gem. This is what charity is supposed to be all about. Not the government giving away tax payer money, but fortunate individuals doing good for those that need help. This will help a lot of families out during Christmas this year and moving forward.
