It does happen in the NFL. Look at the Giants two victories over the Pats.It doesn’t happen in the NFL. It’s pretty clear where you need to be going into the last weeks to clinch a division or wild card. There are no rankings to deal with in the NFL or eye test to advance into the post season.
The problem is OSU and Wisconsin have played each other already. 11-2 is not better than 12-1 when the 12-1’s only loss is to the 11-2 team and the 11-2’s loss is to the 12-1 team and a 6-6 team.
8 team playoffs would be more competitive and it would allow a hot team at the end of the season that maybe lost a game early a chance to show it in the playoffs. Plus I believe it would elevate the excitement for NCAA football even more than it is today. UT in 85 is the perfect example. I believe they were the best team in the country but the early loss to Florida cost them the Championship.Been competitive? Let’s go down the list:
2014
Oregon v FSU-not competitive
Ohio State v Alabama- competitive
2015
Alabama v Mich St-not competitive
Clemson v Oklahoma- marginally competitive
2016
Clemson v Ohio St-not competitive
Alabama v Washington-not competitive
2017
UGA v Oklahoma- very competitive
Alabama v Clemson-not competitive
2018
Alabama v Oklahoma- not competitive
Clemson v Notre Dame- not competitive
So out of 10 semifinal games, 7 have been non competitive. Sorry but that’s not good for college football.
