You would think that the Big 12 would be the envy of all conferences. With their central location it should be able to expand in all four directions. The SEC can go north or west and the Pac 12 can go east and the Big 10 can go south. But they are limited. Despite these advantages, the Big 12 keeps getting schools picked off.

Of course that's the risk of being a central power-everyone wants to nibble on your edges. Seems to me the Big 12 has to decide they are going to Germany and start expanding or at least do better than they are. Otherwise they are going to look like Poland in September 1939-split up between the Russians and the Germans.

Never thought of it in a Geo-Political sense, but I get your drift...

I was thinking about the death of the SWC the other day. Frank Broyles is given 'credit' for its death. Who knows if that is true. In time, I'm convinced Deloss Dodds will receive his due for being the one who killed the Big 12.

Just my opinion.

The big 12 is also sparsely populated other than the Texas triangle of Houston, DFW, San Antonio and Austin.

Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma don't have a great detail of resources. That's the limiting factor rather than geography.

ESPN has a hand in it too. Aligning a TV deal with one school rather than a conference was the beginning of the end.
