They have robbed the tax payers blind. Here's an excellent article talking about federal prosecutors cherry picking cases of fraud against small banks but ignoring what the big banks have done to this country because our politicians have been bought off.

Federal Prosecutors Have Stayed On Sidelines In Mortgage Cases, Despite Wealth Of Evidence

Members of our US military have come home after serving our country to find their houses illegally foreclosed. It's sickening what these banks are doing to our protectors of freedom, yet no criminal charges have been filed against the big banks.

Now, if you've lied about beauty school, they'll nail you. But if you are a big bank and have robbed millions of people, the feds will ignore it. Our whole system is so screwed up it's disgusting. And ignorant fools wonder why so many people are pissed off and protesting.

In October 2010, members of Congress pressed the Justice Department to investigate. Attorney General Eric Holder said investigations were best left to the states, with help from the Justice Department.

so now Holder is a state's rights guy?

I am not saying the system is not screwed up; however, I am not convinced that these banks did anything illegal by foreclosing on the houses of deployed Servicemen/women. The Servicemember must take copies of his/her deployment orders to the banks prior to the deployment in order to be sheltered under the Soldiers' and Sailors' Civil Relief Act. There are plenty of Soldiers who fail to do this, come home to find cars repossessed, rent bills due to early cancellation of leases, etc. and then came to us wanting us to do something about it. At that point, our hands were tied.

If a Servicemember brought their deployment orders to the bank that held their title and the bank still foreclosed on their house, then that appears to be a very easy open and shut case. If not, then the Servicemember screwed themselves. You cannot expect the banks to go around and make sure that all of their clients are not in the military and are not deployed prior to taking action against unpaid accounts.

Banks can't take anything from taxpayers. The politicians gave it to them. Hate the system and the ones who make it possible, not the ones who use it.

BTW, when someone other than a politician, bureaucrat or an armed person on the government's payroll comes to take your freedom and some serviceman/woman prevents it from happening, then I will agree with you that they are protecting our freedom.

Banks are businesses, not charities. Why should they not foreclose on anyone who fails to pay? That is a stupid law. Maybe I could see it in cases of someone who is drafted, but as long as we are dealing with an all volunteer military, then getting deployed is an occupational hazard. If my company sent me to liaise with a producer in China, then I would still have to pay my mortgage.

Personal responsibility....a novel concept. I wonder when mortgagees who either borrowed too much or simply refuse to make payments that they can afford right now because they are "upside down" will take a some of the blame for their situation?
