westwords "Tennessee has been there and done that – once – 23-16 over Florida State, January 4, 1999, Fiesta Bowl, Tempe, Arizona. Those of medium adulthood and beyond are expected to remember. I’ll help". It was certainly a great night for the Vols, Marvin! And this Tennessee team is just as talented! Read this latest gem by Mr. West! westwords

It's simple game plan ....win and move to next game....Go Vols

I disagree that this Tennessee team is just as talented as 1998. But I do agree that at this point, you just takes wins however you can get them. If we can win in Columbus, we can beat any team in the field potentially.

Maybe not quite as talented, Al Wilson, John Henderson, but really more talented at QB, RB, and better overall at Dline with the depth this team has.

Lol that team had Jamal Lewis, Travis Henry, Travis Stephens, and Shawn Bryson to run the ball. That team was significantly more talented at running back. I also wouldn’t say Nico is necessarily more talented than Tee was. There aren’t many people capable of completing 20+ consecutive passes and also busting a 50+ yard run, but Tee was. As for the D Line, that D line had a couple of longtime NFL starters starting on it. This DL might have better 3rd string tackles but the difference is pretty minimal.

I think it’s fair to say Alabama is the best offense we’ve faced so far this year and we had no trouble containing milroe and co. Front 7 keep Howard in check and corners continue to do what they’ve been doing all season against elite receivers. It’s so nice to have a secondary who ALWAYS looks to locate the ball when they go to defend a pass. Very refreshing

Tee had one game where he set a completion record. However he was a 55% passer at UT, but a great runner. Nico will finish around 65-70%. The arm talent isn't even close.

Completion percentages across the board are vastly different today than 25 years ago. Peyton’s senior season completion percentage would rank 13th in the SEC this year. Tee’s completion percentage is lower than Nico’s, but in 98 Tee was 4th in the SEC. Nico is 4th in the SEC this year. Tee was a unanimous 1st team All SEC QB in 1999 and went undefeated in 1998. Nico is thought of as a great talent mostly because of his recruiting ranking, but Tee likely would have been a 5 star QB himself in today’s rankings. He was a Parade All American who could have gone anywhere.

Tee was good on long bombs down the sideline, but could not hit deep crossers and slants that require premium accuracy. Nico can. I see you joined in 2024, well, I lived the era I speak about. When we needed a completion in the Arkansas game, Tee couldn't deliver. When Tennessee recovered the miracle fumble, Fulmer told Cut to "Run the damn ball." Like I said, the arm talent between the two isn't close. (55%) Just see how Nico's UT career finishes, and then the NFL. Nico may not win a National Title, but there is so much luck involved in that, as Tennessee hasn't gotten very close since 1998, 26 years ago. Have a good day, I'm out. I WILL agree on the RB talent, and Oline.

Yeah I lived it too. Join dates on message boards aren’t reflective of how old you are or how long you have been a fan.

It’s funny you’d mention Arkansas, because Arkansas is a great argument for why maybe Nico ain’t all that you claim. Tee never did that. Nico might have a more prototypical arm, but he is not, to this point, as effective of a college QB as Tee was.

"Most of the other big games in Tennessee football history were against Southeastern Conference foes, Alabama, Florida, two or three against Georgia and Arkansas, two against LSU and a large one against Mississippi State that opened the door to the championship opportunity.

Several years ago, my hand-picked panel of experts selected other treasures. As I recall, they invested days in consideration, argued frequently and twice engaged in amateur wrestling matches.

When chairs were again upright and Band-Aids were in place, they had picked what the 1985 Sugar Vols did to Jimmy Johnson’s Miami as the next biggest game.

No. 8 Tennessee defeated the No. 2 Hurricanes, 35-7, in the sold-out Superdome on January 1, 1986. Replacement QB Daryl Dickey and a crusty defense led the underdog Vols to the really big upset." Good, really good job Marvin West..

Junior vs Freshman, Tee at Neyland, Nico at Arkie. Tee with a much more talented supporting cast (your words) and an understudy to the Greatest UT QB ever. That's three points for me and none for you.

Tee was a true junior with no meaningful experience vs Nico who was a redshirt freshman who started a bowl game. To act like Nico is a true freshman and Tee was a junior with a wealth of experience is disingenuous. Nico had thrown more passes in one game than Tee had thrown in 96 and 97 combined.

Tee beat Donovan McNabb on the road in his first ever start. The Florida team he went to OT against was far better than the Florida team Nico went against. Those were his first two starts. Those two teams would have been playoff teams in today’s landscape and both were BCS teams. He beat a good Georgia team on the road. The Arkansas team he beat was undefeated late in the year versus being a .500 caliber team that Nico pulled a Milton against.
