i know this type of info is unreliable at best, but i have it on good authority from a friend of mine in knoxville (i work at a newspaper btw) who is very close to the program that randy sanders is the tip of the iceberg at UT. word is that Phil Fulmer is upset at all the talk about Cutcliff coming, and that he may be considering a move to the NFL as an assistant under joe gibbs, or a head job but not sure which team. supposedly fulmer has told all his staff to be ready for major moves after december is over, and even some players have been heard mumbling about "NFL Phil"....

this report current as of 4:30 eastern time.
i could not substantiate the rumor anywhere else. ill post more when i get more.

I also heard that the Toothfairy and the Easterbunny are competing for the vacant job at UT.

i hope so, but i don't think there is one and i mean one nfl team that would take phil as a head coach.

it could all be bogus, but when you get an email from a newsroom in knoxville, you gotta know something is up....

i think the record he has had at Tennessee, with the exception of this year, has been well above par for an NFL coach.

i cant believe there are so many who dislike our coach so much. if we arent careful, we could run him off and get stuck like alabama with 4 coaches in 5 years.... anyone wanna go through that?

Carolina was ready to hire him in '99. There will be several coaching vacancies in the NFL at the end of the season. He might have a shot.

Is there an NFL team that wants to suck that bad? Oh yeah, the Titans or the Texans may want him.

Titans=no way. Jeff Fisher is very well-liked in Nashville and I do not hear anyone blaming him for our losses. Most people here seem to understand the salary cap dynamic. We spent alot of money and had a good run with one Super Bowl appearance then we have to cut weight to get under the cap. Now we are trying to reload.

titans should be bad. they are the youngest team in the league. they should be at the bottom for a year or 2. i think he will have taht team working in 3 years.

Could be the best thing for the program.

I thought the NFL only came calling when times were good (Spurrier a few years ago, Stoops a few years ago, Saban, etc.) not when times are bad.

Who knows... maybe Fulmer can instill the kind of discipline that someone like T.O. needs.

NOT.

This made me laugh. Phil in the NFL should be a reality show as well. We should all be able to watch the biggest comedy in recent football history. His nickname would be doormat and his program would make the Vikings look like the honor society.

lol, because reporters aren't actually in the business of selling newspapers and they only like to report the facts. i would say it is say to say this finebomb character is getting bad info from his "source".

you guys appear to be right, i have been trying to substantiate this story for over 12 hours, and i cant get anywhere. the newspaper i work for decided not to even pursue the lead, and my source has told me this morning that his source has clammed up on the story.

likely someone agitated at either the team or the media that got this story started.

it does bring up an interesting discussion about whether or no Phil could handle the pros.... which i think he could.

im going to try to find a pulse on this story if there is one, and ill let you guys know if anything turns up.
