Big Ten going after Texas

That would be an automatic BCS bowl for Texas every year. They'd have no trouble with that wretched conference year in and year out.

Beyond dumb. About as dumb as Louisiana Tech being in the WAC.

Maybe the Big 10 should pick up a map. Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Missouri sit between Texas and Iowa/Illinois.

Joining the Big 10 when you're 4 states away from two of the six teams you'd face every year is dumb. Seriously, Texas is going to go play in the snow at Minnesota and Wisconsin? Have fun with that...

No way Texas does this. Wouldn't make sense.

They need to pick up Iowa State. That seems about where their competition level is.

Pittsburgh would be a nice addition to the big 11 and it would renew their rivalry with Penn St

Hmmm...

Would the Big 10 and Big 12 go ahead and switch names?

TCU would probably replace Texas if they were dumb enough to leave.

They better think about expanding the stadium though if that happens.

If it's not Iowa State, Cincinnati, Missouri, Pittsburgh or Notre Dame... Big 10 should leave it alone.

Texas? Wtf...

I heard the PAC 10 was looking to scoop up BYU and possibly Colorado.

Texas moving is news to me though.

Colorado? Why would they skip over Boise State and Utah for Colorado? Sick.

As for the Big 10, they could also look at Louisville and West Virginia. Kentucky too but I don't think Kentucky would leave the SEC.

The SEC would lose too much if Kentucky left. ie: Basketball

I think both would lose. SEC rakes in the money. Kentucky may be a basketball school but they like that football money.

Even if Kentucky left, SEC could just replace em' with Memphis. The name isn't Kentucky but they are pretty good in basketball. Their recruiting class coming in is dirty. Or could replace em with Louisville.

Either way, it's pretty irrelevant because I don't think any team is dumb enough to leave the SEC. Vanderbilt might want to consider it but that would be about it. They would be better off playing football somewhere else in my opinion.

I thought the Big 10 rules said a member school must be in a state that borders another member school?

Bear Bryant left Kentucky based on him not wanting to play second fiddle to a Basketball coach.

If memory serves me:

At the end of one season, they gave Rupp a Caddilac, and gave Bear a watch.
I think the writing is on the wall over in kitty cat land.

Ridiculous as it sounds, in the modern day of conference realignment it really isnt that far off base. Geography is only a secondary concern now, it's all about revenue stream and Texas has alot of it. Believe it or not, the Big Ten would be a upgrade for Texas revenue wise because of the TV contracts they have.

With the PAC 10 possible expansion, i think you can go ahead and throw out Boise State, yes they are the darling BCS busters in football but the rest of their sports programs are pretty non existent. BYU would seem like a good fit along with Utah with Fresno State being a darkhorse.
If the Big 10 and PAC 10 both plunder the Big 12, that league could be in some serious trouble.

The Big 10 going after Texas is solely a financial decision idea. And geography aside makes sense.

If the Big 10 is going to expand they want to bring in a team that will increase revenues for all schools. My guess is that Texas in the Big 10 would increase the TV deal a lot with the networks (more nationally televised games and not regional) plus would allow the Big 10 and their TV network into Texas cable companies, increasing revenues from fees and from advertising. Texas is a much bigger fish than Mizzou or Pitt.

Other than the geographical argument, the move makes a lot of sense and I would guess that if Texas is reasonably considering it they would reasonably benefit from it as well.

Colorado? Why would they skip over Boise State and Utah for Colorado? Sick.

well boise state has crappy non football programs, a small fanbse, is in a small media market, and has a small stadium. also their academics are horrible and that is a major factor.

colorado and utah can be debated.

Personally, if I were a Pac 10 schools looking to expand I would look at colorado first because of the Denver media market and larger fanbase.

Plus, eventually Colorado will figure out what in the heck to do and become an above average football team again.

Because apparently Texas going 2-1 vs Ohio State in the last 4 yrs with both wins in the last minute means they'll dominate the big ten.
Once Michigan gets back to prominence, the Big 10 would definitely present more of a challenge for Texas in my opinion.

I'm with you. It's been way rougher than I expected so far but I still think Michigan will get a lot better under Rich Rod.
