Recruiting can be based upon national exposure. Especially in a world where social media consumes us. If we beat FAU to go to E8 ?? That will just elevate our program to the next level. This team needs to show the country we aren’t just a good team. We gotta a chance to be something special, Go Vols!!

Especially if we win, the Barnes needs to retire narrative can go away. With that said, if we win the natty this year, I think he retires.

I think he's stated he'll coach as long as it's fun. Winning is fun so I don't see any chance of him hanging it up if he gets the PRIZE this season.

"a chance to be something special,"
Exactly what does that even mean? It makes me cringe a little.

Not trying to go at OP or anything, but not really sure anything short of a national title really elevates our recruiting. We’ve had top 5 classes recently and routinely land 5 stars and highly touted 4 stars. Not really sure how much better we can ever expect to do in recruiting, which is a huge testament to our coaching staff and where we currently are as a program.

Honestly, it wouldn't totally shock me if Barnes retired if we made the Final Four and lost either in that round or the championship game. Taking UT to its first ever FF would prove all the haters and doubters wrong once and for all, and he could go out on top as a legend here.

We will do "better" in recruiting in years when we have a great player in middle Tennessee. If we ever even just make it to the Final Four, it would be a selling point to keep that kid in-state ... Otherwise, it probably isn't very meaningful just to make the Elite 8. But I still hope we do. LOL.

Top 40-50 player, Juke Harris from Salisbury, North Carolina is making his decision tomorrow, 3/24. Tennessee has a good chance per the recruiting pundits to land him and Wake is in the mix too. Would be fun to win tonight, get his commitment tomorrow, and keep the train rolling into a Saturday Elight 8 game in MSG.

Let’s win it all this year, name the street, and build the statue 💪🏻

FYP. I appreciate what Coach Mears did, but speculation doesn’t count.

Who knows what Pearl might have accomplished…but he didn’t.
Gotta remember that Mears had fewer opportunities to win 25 since there was no SEC tournament and the NCAA was limited to 32 during his career. I think the number of regular season games allowed also increased after he retired. L

I just prefer to live in reality…not the fantasyland of what-ifs?

I prefer to land very good 4* players rather than 5*.

UT just has better success with the 4* players that really buy into the program.
