Big 12, SEC Announce Men’s Basketball Challenge - Big 12 Conference - Official Athletic Site
The Big 12 and Southeastern Conferences have announced an annual men’s basketball challenge that will begin during the 2013-14 season. “The Big 12 is excited to enter into another partnership with the SEC,” said Commissioner Bob Bowlsby. “It will add more quality opponents to our schools’ annually strong non-conference schedules and provide an additional avenue to showcase some outstanding intersectional matchups.”
The Baylor vs UK game has been moved up one day at Jerrah World.

This is disappointing. I really wanted to see a UK/KU matchup. I wonder who lobbied against that happening.

Such a parasitic relationship with those guys. I really wish they'd just go away.

Barn and USCe managed to get a game out of it and we aren't listed?

Ah well. It should help with the SEC's SOS as a whole at least.

Meh..It looks like just a couple of games, It's not really a tournament. It's clear the Big 12 is just trying to profit off the SEC name, we have already heard what their coaches really think about the SEC.

Bill Self.

Game was scheduled last spring as the second of a two games series. Cal wanted his guys to play a game where the Final Four will be held. Plus playing as many games in Texas couldn't hurt in getting the twins.

Bill Self.

If there even were any lobbying at KU done, I would guess it to be Self and the AD possibly busy lobbying for Kansas and Missouri not to play...cause that'll show 'em for leaving, or whatever the reason was for ending that series

No compelling reason for KU to continue the series. Without Mizzou and aTm, KU plays as many conference games as they did with Mizzou and aTm (18). Losing the MU series did not free up KU for more OOC games, and KU already plays enough tough OOC teams. Historically speaking, MU is not a great program, and it is reasonable for KU to hold the belief that in the future MU will continue to be average. Because it is Kansas-Mizzou, it will always be a tough game. But, why schedule a tough game that most years will not help one's RPI and seeding for the tournament?

Bitterness aside, MU needs the KU rivalry more than KU needs it. MU needs the SOS boost; MU gets a huge quality win most years is they beat KU, and if they lose, well, they lost to KU. KU does not get a huge SOS boost, they do not get a quality win for beating MU, and, if they lose, they most likely lose to a non-Top 25 team.

That is the reality of the situation. Moreover, KU will not lose recruits in the Kansas City area for not playing MU. But, KU will potentially lose recruits in the KC area if they play and lose to MU.

So, what is the upside of playing MU? Is it merely revenue? KU can get the same revenue by playing a home-and-home on a neutral court with Michigan State (Sprint Center and the Palace).

If NC State ever left the ACC, it would be dumb for both Duke and UNC to continue that rivalry, while NC State would very much want to continue the rivalry.

Haha. Self and Calipari both enjoy playing each other and their relationship goes way back, connected through Larry Brown and KU. I have a hard time thinking either of them backed away from this game.

Yeah was just kidding. I'm still snickering about his "Kentucky didn't beat us, we just ran out of time" comment from last year's NC game.

Not just Baylor, the whole lot of them. Recently we hosted the sips in town for a tennis match and it was big news for them. They made wayyyy more out of it than enyone here, but we had to hear about it all from our local radio guys. Funniset comment was from the fella that posted a picture of the Cowtv logo on a car. He said "I can finally say I saw Cowtv".

It doesnt end there. We have Baylor coming in for the softball tournament and their coach was interviewed saying all kinds of Big12 propaganda drivel.

In the diamond sports for sure, we're destined to have to play them in the postseason and I get that, but its like despite us moving, they're always going to be around at some point. And God forbid they ever win anything, it'll be like Christmas for their collective fanbases.

Sad, tragic, and trivial if you ask me. Just a craptastic setup due tothe region we're in. I mean, who else are we gonna play? SFA? South West Texas State? Prairie View?

A lot changes doesn't it? Like I said, we're talking about a comment I made nearly 7 years ago, and you're going to throw at it me and expect me to feel ashamed?

7 years man. Let me put that in context for you since you seem adamant. That's about the last time you guys won the 3rd Saturday in October game.

Sorry to be a dick, but....
