Yes he's a 4* and appears to be a true talent from in state. I don't think a lot of people realize the deeper meaning... Yes we got a good athlete, but what is more encouraging to me is the fact that he is in the Nashville area and CBJ yapped him up before Franklin was able to, and CBJ has only been here a few short weeks. I don't really know how hard Franklin was going after this kid, but something tells me getting recruits right out of Vandy's back yard is a good way to start building the fence back around this great state. GBO!

Reading some of his quotes he was Cincy bound so I'm not shocked he committed. Like Vol Doc said, the fact we are even talking about competing with Vandy for recruits is a shame.

UT shouldn't have to compete with Vanderbilt for recruits. Sad.

TOTALLY agree!! But the simple fact of the matter is.. the past year or so, they're class is better than ours. I don't think that will last very long at all though with the way CBJ is recruiting hard, that was my point. But yes, I agree we shouldn't.

UT needs to not get blown out by Vandy for your statement to become relevant. And maybe winning more games than Vandy would be required. Hell, Vandy has 7 SEC wins in the past 2 years..UT has 2.....

Some you are beyond ignorant. You turds do realize this isn't your daddy's Vandy anymore right? I mean, they did beat the brakes off of us this year, and are on their way to 9 victories and a top 25 class.

I think what these guys are saying is that Vanderbilt has historicaly been a team which we've owned. We may have had an 18 year win streak against them in recent history (they actually created a video which commenrorated breaking that streak) and that it's a shame our program has fallen off so far that we're at par with them. No one's disputing that Vandy hasn't improved, it's just pissing us off that there isn't a massive gap between the two like it once was. That doesn't make anyone "beyond ignorant" or a "turd."

We should be taking care of the Memphis area. Instead, Every team in the West come and go as they please with no worry at all about UT.

we don't need Memphis for football. We just don't. I know someone will list a bunch of players, but we don't need Memphis hs football recruits. From Jackson over is fine. Basketball, is fine. I think our time and money would be better invested into areas within a 3-4 hr radius, and we would get better ball players. jmo, of course

Unfortunately, we do these days. So time to get off the high horse, roll up the sleeves, and go to work!

We need the middle Tennessee kids going to UTK like they did in the 80s and 90s.

Somewhere along the line, the Vols stopped being kewl in middle Tennessee. And I think it lines up somewhere with the music city miracle play that the Titans pulled off. I know that was the turning point where I started buying more Titan gear and less Vols stuff.

What you said I agree with, that doesn't make someone ignorant or a turd for that matter. Thinking we are Tennessee and they are Vandy and we should be beat them at anything and everything due in part to past merit... does make someone a turd. Got to stop living in the past. But hey, that is just my opinion.

Depends on what period of history. Remember that Neyland was hired to beat Vandy and did. i have seen some really good games between Tennessee and Vandy back in the 40s an 50s. The recent history reflects the fact that Vandy can enroll student-athletes that can not be enrolled by Tennessee.

I agree with sparty. For football, build our fence at Jackson.

It seems most people around East TN change thought patterns at the pace of a snail.

Probably because most of the teams that recruit kids from Memphis are closer than UT. Memphis is damn near 7 hours away from Knoxville.

Affirmative. I long for the days when it was enough to say "come to UT." UT has fallen. Vanderbilt has risen. Good for them. Bad for us.

This is all true. But I also thought about this as I watched the '98 team last night. How many of those players on the dominant 90's squad would:

-have had the grades to get into UT today?
-have been able to keep up the academic curriculum?
-would have lasted very long while out partying and fighting with today's social media?
-would have not been eligible due to ncaa issues during recruiting and when they were living off campus, driving cars, and working summer jobs where they were paid for nothing.
It's just a different age of football, and none of changes in the past 15 years has helped us.
