just said the this was the most disinterested Tennessee fanbase he had ever seen and he's been covering Tennessee for a long time. He also went on to say that this year will show up on the field for the Vols, that we'll pay for such a poor performance by Fulmer. Look at Ty Willingham's last two yearsand Weis's firstyear in recruiting and ND's performance last year.

I think that is a reasonable opinion. I hope it is wrong. If UT has more than 3 losses next year we are going to be big trouble.

apathy is, perhaps, the most telling sign of the current state of our program

I think that everyone on earth knew their wouldn't be any surprises yesterday. That was the reason for the lack of interest. If we were on the board for two or three five star guys yesterday the interest would have been there.

true, but is it a sign of things to come. If the Vols stumble out of the gate next year, you might just see some empty seats in Neyland. Of course you wont for the big games, but what if only 90,000 show for the chump games? I just get an overall sense that Vol football has lost some of it's excitement. Maybe it's just that it's so many days until ko.

I think that the Clawson factor will be in full effect by next fall. People will forget about recruiting rankings toward the end of June. There will be plenty of excitement and intrigue with the program.

If they stumble out of the gate, that will be the definitive end of the Fulmer era.

8-30-08 UAB
9-6-08 at UCLA
9-20-08 FLORIDA
9-27-08 at Auburn
10-4-08 NORTHERN ILLINOIS
10-11-08 at Georgia
10-18-08 MISSISSIPPI STATE
10-25-08 ALABAMA
11-1-08 at South Carolina
11-8-08 WYOMING
11-22-08 at Vanderbilt

just imagine (and it's highly possible) losing to UCLA, UF, & AU in a row....then getting smoked by UGA. we'll be sitting at 2-4, can you imagine the meltdown?

Yeah we'll pay down the road, no doubt. There is not enough magic dust to go around. The fanbase is growing disinterested, because they're are watching a once proud program slip further and further into mediocrity.

For what it is worth, there are some recruiting Guru's that feel that our class was not properly graded. Don't ask me for names because I can't remember them now.
One guy thinks Austin Johnson is a real 5 star guy and A-Ward could have had a 5 star rating. I must admit that I am dissapointed in the way this class was ranked but we do have some serious talent in here.
Perhaps the coaching staff had a different philosophy in recruiting this year. Instead of going for the guys looking for a fast track to the NFL they went after talented guys that really want to play for the VOLS.

Just a thought.

I thought there had to be some type of method to this madness. Thanks for clearing that up. However I don't like the odds of our team full of want to players vs the elite's talent.

what was I thinking? for years now I've coveted guys that had talent, you know, guys that could one day play in the league. this whole time I should have desired the guys that simply "want to" play for the Vols. We shouldnt have offered Peyton a scholly and instead should have given it to Sterling Marlin.

This years recruiting class has absolutely nothing to with how the Vols will perform on the field this year. There isn't a position on the team where a true freshman would start.

The fact is that a good percentage of those amazing 5* players at Bama and elsewhere will end up at jucos, just like many of ours have in the past. If (when) we have a glaring need at DT or some other position in a year or two, we'll just go get the best couple of juco players on the market for whatever position we need. We've done that in the past with pretty good success. We'll survive the bad recruiting class. What we won't survive is a poor showing by our offense this fall. If Clawson doesn't really make our offense look good, we are in trouble. If we have another losing (or close to losing) season, our recruiting will be even worse next year - then we're screwed. A lot riding on Clawson and crew. Scary.

like the magician tells his wife, it's not the size of the wand that counts, it's how you wave it....

Let's see what Clawson and Chavis can do with who shows up on the practice field before we slice our wrists.
