I'm sure people will find a way to remove them, but this is disturbing, nonetheless.

This is misinformation. These "black boxes" have been installed in every car with an airbag forever. The new legislation is that the manufacturer of any car sold in the US must make the data in these crash data recorders available for download and reading. Most domestic vehicles have been able to be read for years now.

They only record data at the time of a collision, and they cannot be removed.
