I could see a Florida-Boise State matchup in the Cotton Bowl

I could see both teams winning next week, but Boise State would get some minor bowl due to only 1 G5 team allowed in the New Years Six bowls.

Unless they do what happened in what, 2009, at the Fiesta Bowl between Boise State and TCU, and let both Memphis and Boise State play the Cotton Bowl. Both teams get a shot to play and win in a major bowl game, but win or loose, no P5 teams risk embarrassment from loosing to a G5 program.

I'm happy for Memphis and wish them luck, but personally, I see Boise State as the stronger overall program by a wide margin.

Been waiting for Virginia football to rebuild on a permanent basis for 25 plus years. The Cavaliers are my 2nd team I pull for after the Vols. For some reason I never liked the Hokies.
The biggest hindrance at UVA over the past couple of decades has been the administration. They’ve finally begun to spend the money necessary to consistently compete at this level. Not only in coaching salaries but with facilities.

Curious , what are a couple of the bad experiences with Hokie fans ? Here in SW Va both fan bases are represented. Also some here on Volnation are stating we may play VT in a bowl game.
General arrogance. I get more sh*t, and I mean rude sh*t, from Tech fans than fans of anyone else.

In the business my wife and I own in Virginia, I do Tennessee-themed things to sell because 1) I want to, and 2) we've got a sizable group of UT fans that come buy from me because they like talking UT with me and enjoy the fact that I exist in Hokie/UVA territory. The Virginia Tech fans INEVITABLY complain (and I mean for real complain) that I don't make Virginia Tech stuff (which they could get ANYWHERE ELSE). UVA fans complement it and like that I do something fun for me and my regular friends and customers.

Tech fans have never struck me as the type of people that aren't happy letting anyone else enjoy themselves or be content. It's like a fanbase of Karens.

Well I went to UVA, so by default I hate them. But in all seriousness I’ve had mostly negative experiences when I’ve been around VT fans. I actually think they’re a lot like Ohio State fans. They’re boorish, obnoxious, and carry themselves with a sense of entitlement. I can understand OSU fans being arrogant because they root for one of the greatest programs in the history of the sport. Tech fans act like college football didn’t start until they rose to prominence in the mid to late 90’s.

But, but Mike Leach is such a great coach 😂😂
He's such a crybaby when he loses. I know WSU isn't the easiest place to win but he's in year 8 and he's 6-6 with his 7th straight loss to their biggest rival.

It's funny how now he's using his inability to recruit as an excuse but last year he said the recruiting rankings are meaningless and flawed and how he knew how to recruit players that fit his system.

He's a one trick pony and that system will likely never sniff a championship.

As long as a second ACC team finishes in the CFP top 25, they are required to go to the orange bowl. This does not include Notre dame. So as long as UVA finishes in the top 25, which they should, they’re going to the orange bowl

It’s not even if they’re ranked. The contract states one of the two teams in the Orange Bowl has to be an ACC team.

Doesn't ND fit under the ACC for bowl purposes now though?

Only in the bowls below the Orange Bowl.

To prevent it from pushing an ACC team out of the Orange Bowl, the Orange Bowl’s agreement more or less changes that part of the setup by making Notre Dame one of the teams that can play against the ACC team (so, the Orange Bowl matchup has to have an ACC team, but they can be matched against either an SEC team, a Big 10 team, or Notre Dame).

(For the ACC, it’s pretty much like the Rose Bowl is for the Big 10 and Pac 12: one of the teams from the ACC has to be in it each year it’s not hosting the playoffs.)

According to the things I've seen about the ACC Notre Dame is treated like an ACC team in the Bowl hierarchy

In the ACC games below the Orange Bowl, they can yes. The Orange Bowl’s contract changes the “Notre Dame can replace an ACC team scenario” to avoid that from happening. Where have you found that this applies to the Orange Bowl?
