Top black state legislators said Wednesday that members of the black community are calling recruits. Black caucus chairman Rep. David Weeks says they should know some people in the state want black people to play sports but not serve as trustees.

The flap involves a black lawyer whose election next month by the Legislature is in doubt.

Weeks and other lawmakers would not say who is making the calls. The AP could not immediately confirm whether any recruits had been contacted.

University athletics spokesman Steve Fink says he’s not aware of the calls.

What did South Carolina do to this guy? It doesn't make sense. I feel sorry for the state of South Carolina since they had a guy like this in a position to make any type of decision in the state. If this is any indication, I hope Obama doesn't get impeached or he will speed dial Kobe, Lebron, and Dwyane Wade and convince them not to play for Gold in 2012.

The majority of the country is white and we have a black president.

It's amazing that so called minorities still complain.

You're no longer in the minority when they majority agrees with you.

Skin color is just an excuse 90% of the time minorities complain.

SC is a conservative state and has a conservative legislature. Therefore "racism" will be charged on something like this whether it is true or not.

We only have part of the story but it is telling that the only thing mentioned is his color and not his qualifications/character. So much for MLK's dream, huh?

Unfortunately, for society (and fortunately for the media hype machine), the color of one's skin is a lot easier to determine than the content of their character.

As ridiculous as that is, you probably believe it.

.....riiiight.

So you're telling me that this is a completely legitimate argument? It's not like George Wallace barricaded himself to the campus entrance screaming "No more blacks!!!!" The dude doesn't want black players to play at USC because some idiot got charged with bank fraud and he was one of the last blacks on the board or whatever it was. Give me a break. Quit whining about not enough blacks being in these types of positions. If you don't like it, move to Africa. I'm sure you'll find plenty of blacks there.

IGNORANCE such as this does not help the argument that we have completely moved past racism in this country.

Explain how that is ignorant or even racist? Are there not blacks in Africa? And the guy who happens to be black gets arrested for bank fraud and fellow black lawmakers urge USC recruits to not go there because he was the last black left, how has that become a completely legitimate claim? I'm going to cry to my local politician to tell any white person wanting to go to a HBCU to strongly reconsider their decision because there aren't enough whites on the board. Both are equally ridiculous.

Being a minority means that there are LESS of you, which explains why there are LESS of you on any particular board. It's simple math. How that has become racism is completely beyond me. I'm not racist, I'm just sick of all this whining.

No. He is an idiot for involving the university and the football team. If he wants to spread word about an issue without being an idiot there are better ways to do so. But in the end he is a politician.

The woman in question is finishing the term of the person who was outed for bank fraud.

Well if you are tired of black people "whining" maybe you should move your ass to Sweden I'm sure they have very few black people "whining" there.
I assume you think I'm black damn I completely screwed my census up if that's the case.

I don't give a damn what you are. Doesn't change the fact that these people are WHINING because there aren't (in their opinion) enough blacks on their board. Please, what else would you call it? I'd love to hear it.
