Chicago drive-by shooting kills 20-month-old child: 'When is this going to stop?'

Shots fired from one vehicle into another on a Chicago street killed a 20-month-old boy sitting in his car seat, according to reports.

The drive-by shooting Saturday afternoon in the Englewood neighborhood marked the second time in a week a young child had become an innocent victim of Chicago’s tragic gun violence.

“It seems like just yesterday, it was actually last Saturday, I was in front of you all talking about a 3-year-old that was killed in the Austin community, and now here in Englewood, a 20-month-old was killed,” Chicago Police Chief of Operations Fred Waller said, according to CBS 2 Chicago.

A 3-year-old boy, Mekhi James, was also the victim of a drive-by shooting. He was sitting in a car his father was driving when he was struck.

Police said the toddler was shot in the chest. A bullet grazed his 22-year-old mother in the head.

A 10-year-old girl was killed Saturday night in Logan Square after she was struck in the head by a stray bullet that came through a second-floor apartment window, according to Chicago police.

The girl and her 8-year-old cousin were sitting in the front room of an apartment in the 3500 block of West Dickens Avenue when a man fired multiple shots in the alley across the street, police said, citing preliminary information.

Two groups of men may have been firing at each other, police said, possibly including someone firing from a vehicle. It’s unclear which party fired the bullet that hit the girl.

She was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police said, and was later pronounced dead there.

At Least 20 People Shot, 7 Fatally, During 24 Hours in Mayor Lightfoot’s Chicago

At least 20 people were shot, seven fatally, during a 24-hour timeframe this weekend in Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s (D) Chicago.

NBC Chicago reports the first non-fatal shooting occurred around 4 p.m. Friday, when a 31-year-old was shot and wounded while riding in a vehicle “in the 10300 block of South Halsted.” The man was transported to the hospital in good condition.

Just under 24 hours later, at 3:50 p.m. Saturday, a 28-year-old man was found on South Phillips with “a gunshot wound to the chest, the neck and the right arm.” The victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

The first fatal shooting of the 24-hour time-frame occurred just before 6 p.m. Friday night, when a “42-year-old man… on the sidewalk in the 200 block of North Leclaire” was shot in the head.

Two men were shot dead Saturday morning in two unrelated shootings that occurred between 6:20 a.m. and 6:50 a.m.

A 25-year-old man was standing “in the 1300 block of South Springfield” at 10:25 a.m. when someone inside a passing vehicle opened fired, killing him. A 17-year-old was shot and fatally wounded about an hour later.

Some time after 2 p.m. a one-year-old boy was shot dead while riding in the car with his mother in Englewood. The boy and his mother had been at the laundromat, and were driving back home when a vehicle pulled up next to them and opened fire.

Another fatality was discovered just before 4 p.m. Saturday, when a 28-year-old man who “had been shot in the back and face” was found “unresponsive on the sidewalk in the 1300 block of North Mayfield Avenue.” He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports the boy’s 22-year-old mother was also struck by gunfire during the attack, but her wounds were not life-threatening.

All these Chicago shootings sound like the street gangs are in full scale warfare and everybody affiliated in any way, shape or form is an open target. Tragically, the gangs aren’t worried about any innocents catching the stray rounds.

The world changed when they no longer cared about children being murdered. Sometimes small children are actually Targeted! I saw a black dude on TV news the other day and he said, "They're not afraid of the police anymore."

......because the mayors & the city councils don't/won't backup the police anymore to give the impression that the criminals will pay a heavy price if they commit such behavior/violence.

This precisely why I have zero respect for the BLM movement. If all black lives truly mattered, then it should be just that regardless of who is doing the killing. The problem with the “movement” is black lives only matter if it doesn’t contradict their political views. Acknowledging that liberal policies in New York, Chicago, LA, Atlanta, etc. have perpetuated the cycle of poverty and violence in those areas isn’t something they are willing to do. Therefore, the movement is a joke.
