108-3 girls basketball rout raises questions - Prep Rally - High School - Yahoo! Sports

I find it hilarious that the winning team is being criticized for basically being too good. I understand sportsmanship and all but it's ridiculous to even suggest they need to apologize for anything.

I've been on teams that have had the crap beaten out of them. Not a 100 point loss mind you but I have been on a few teams that got some pretty big beatings. My teammates and I were upset after the game, but we didn't whine that the other team scored too much, we were upset because we were embarrassed by our play. It made us work and play harder because we didn't want to experience that kind of beating again, and in most cases we didn't.

I played varsity tennis for William Blount HS here in Maryville from '98-01. The year I started was the last year for the tennis coach, who basically did nothing aside from unlocking the tennis courts for practice. The following year we got a new coach who happened to be a coach for the football team. He worked our butts off and we got a lot better despite still getting demolished by some of the West Knox teams who took tennis a lot more seriously than we did. We probably won 5-10 matches in total by the time I graduated. The team has gone 99-46 (boys) and 128-29 (girls) since 2003, so its definitely not impossible to turn a program around in a short amount of time. I think they'll learn and adapt but it might be a few years down the road.

I really don't care if they apologize or not, but the score is a bit ridiculous.

And with his starters still in the game, McGill decided it would be more disrespectful to slow the ball down and pass around the perimeter than continuing to run the team's offense.

He was wrong... You pull the starters and you slow down your O. The coach should have called T.O and said no more scoring. This is HS girls basketball, not the UFC

the fact he had the starters still in the game is pathetic, and classless. i have no problem beating a team by 30, but come on oer 100 and your starters are still playing? ****. clear the benches and relax

I've been a coach on both sides of this argument. It's tough to handle either way. The best solution is to not let your emotions control you actions.

The other team shouldn't compete in a league where they cannot score more than 3 points....I felt extremely bad for GA State this year playing Bama...That program set those kids up for failure and morale suffered for it no doubt. I coach 11U elite baseball and out of 70-80 games a year we play 10-12 that are against rec teams. I feel bad but I don't change our game and risk allowing my boys to get lazy. We get the score as high as possible to ensure a "run rule" but for us that is mainly to save our pitching for the good teams that are playing in the tourney. DO I pitch my best, no....Do I bat 12 instead of 9, of course but the opposing coach IMO has entered a competition where his team has ZERO chance....
