Wisconsin Badgers coach Bo Ryan retiring effective immediately

Bo Ryan announced that he will be retiring effective immediately. Assistant Greg Gard will take over as interim head coach.

Nothing but respect for Bo Ryan. Great coach that won a ton of games in the SEC of basketball conferences. Gotta love he went out on his own terms, just hope it's not health related.

14 NCAA tournaments in 14 years and Wisky went from 7 all team NCAA tourney teams to 21 with Bo, not too shabby. Congrats on a great career.

One stayed to allow his asst time to take care of his father who was about to die with cancer. The other just left. Yep, they're the same situation. SMH

I agree that it'd be tough. But I could see him dipping out of Oakland for the remainder of the season, if the price is nice enough. I feel like they could try giving him a big signing bonus and backloading the rest of the contract over 5 years. That way they don't take a huge hit unless he stays.

Bo wanted his guy Asst Coach Gard as his replacement and AD Alvarez wasn't having any part of it.This way he forces Alvarez into an on the job try-out for Gard. Good loyal move by Bo. Kudos.
