While the EADS proposal would have helped the Alabama economy, I'm glad to see US defense work is not being outsourced. In the end, keeping this work here is better for the US taxpayer.

“Presidents make a difference, and we all know that,” Michalski told reporters in a conference call after then Pentagon awarded the tanker contract to Boeing on Thursday. “It’s his Cabinet. … He sets the tone.”

this is a great deal for the US, Boeing and all the subcontractors. Its a better plane and will be cheaper to fly than the Airbus over the long run.

Boeing is a long term hold for me and will be for the next 5 years

Boeing was the right choice here. There were a few waivers granted to EADS including the ability to take off from 7,000 ft runways and the ability to refuel all types of USAF aircraft. It was reported that the EADS could not transfer fuel to the V-22's.
