IIRC they return 21 of 22 starters next season, and not only that, their entire roster except the five seniors listed. Yeah, they've got their WAC schedule, but their OOC is no joke. They get OSU at home and play Virginia Tech in Washington DC, who is shaping up to be a consensus preseason top 5 and odds-on favorite to win the ACC.

My question is this -- Say Boise State runs the table with all blowout wins, including a demolition job of VaTech on the road (who goes on to win the rest of their games and their conference) and you have a bunch of other two-loss teams vying for a spot in the national title game. Does Boise get in?

I think they could get in against 1 loss teams, if they win convincingly.

I think at some point, the BCS hopes one of them gets in the game, just so they can justify their system.

Huh? IMO the ultimate purpose of the BCS is to keep the bowl game money in the member conferences and their schools, Boise being in the title game would defeat that purpose.

I go to school with a bunch of transfers from BSU who are still fans, and some of the bigger conspiracy theorists among them are saying they are going to put more weight on the strength of schedule portion of the computer ratings to hurt BSU's chance for a shot at the title next season (I lol'd).

Maybe not next year, but one year BSU could just slip into the title game... And the other team will be ready and will murder them.

My prediction if that happens as well, but why not next year?

Aside from Bama, I can't think of a single juggernaut program from the SEC, Pac-10, Big Ten or Big XII that looks really ready for a run at the title. Maybe Ohio State? Maybe Oregon? 2010 looks pretty ripe for us to see Bama and Boise undefeated (maybe a loss for Bama, whichever) then a bunch of 2-loss bunk.

Say they do, for the sake of discussion...

And FWIW, this team is much better, and Chris Peterson is much better, than the Dan "this ain't intramurals, brotha!" Hawkins-led Boise crew that showed up in Athens in '05. I do believe they stand a fighting chance against Hokie High.

Those teams are the biggest pushers for a playoff.

I think the BCS would be fine with BSU, or Utah,....for a year, if it meant keeping their system intact. That would be the only reason.

Next year BSU plays two legitimate teams (Oregon & VaTech) and ten cupcakes. If they run the table, I think they have a better-than-even shot at the BCSCG. I don't think a 10-cupcake-schedule oughta' merit consideration for the BCSCG, but I don't get a vote.

Hopefully VT puts this issue to bed.

In 2010 six SEC teams have their off-week prior to playing Bama. I don't see how Bama can run the SEC gauntlet and remain undefeated.

For the record, it's Oregon State, not Oregon. Still a 'quality' non-conf. But yeah, that whole 10 cupcake schedule is the crux of the discussion, if the big time conferences fail to produce two undefeated or one-loss teams.

Thanks for bringing up that tidbit about Alabama and their SEC comp next year. I forgot about that. Even with all that talent and Saban on the sideline, they are going to have a difficult time going undefeated or even one-loss for that stretch.

I think VT will win. I simply think they'll be ready, and I don't like Boise State's chances against a VT team that takes them very seriously.

If they go undefeated again, they'll get their shot. I def think they start the season top 5.

I'm pretty sure they would....IF a BSC conference invited them.
what? you think they can just up and move to another conference when they want to?

They wouldn't. They would rather go 12-0 and complain every year than go 9-3.

So Boise beat TCU? I truly had not a clue. And if that is so could of gone without ever knowing.

all it takes is the president saying I want to join the pac-10 and leave the wac it's not that hard then the pac-10 decides if they want them or not

Except that the Pac-10 has 10 members already, and unlike they Big-10, they can actually count.

they get in easily with this scenario.
