Bonds Failed Drug test in 2006

Shocked on both counts.

I can't believe Barry would use drugs or blame someone else for his problems like the media, his trainer, or a teammate.........

Do we put asterisks next to the accomplishments of Pete Rose, Mickey Mantle, Mike Schmidt, and about 1,000 other players who have freely admitted using greenies at some point in their career? The Bonds Haters better hope this isn't the only failed test, because if it is, they'll either have to give Barry a pass or expose themselves as the duplicitous swine they are.

Short answer is yes.

the problem is that it is Barry Bonds....it just seems to never end. and something that may not technically seem to be a big deal or that it was commonplace among other atheletes doesn't matter.

perception is reality........and his track record is not getting any better. not saying i agree with it or not, but certainly understand the mentality associated with it. blood in the water mentality.

is it any wonder why baseball has been voted out of the summer Olympics? with all the drug testing done by the IOC, MLB players who are on the juice and other drugs don't dare participate.

Were those drugs banned from baseball when those guys used them?

they were illegal even if they weren't specifically banned by baseball.

Steroids were, however, illegal.

In the court of public opinion, this makes Barry Bonds' testimony look even more like a lie.

Granted, so many players who are loved by fans (mostly white) have used amphetamines and have received no backlash, nor would they. It's wrong.

In the end, this story isn't surprising, nor does it change my opinion of Barry Bonds or any player post .... 1980. It just sucks to know that when you watch sports now, you can be pretty sure you're not seeing real, human athletic achievements.

Then the criminal justice system handles it. Baseball, on the other hand, had no rules. Therefore, sanctimonious rubes and half wit sportswriters need to shut the holy hell up.

An NFL player this season actually gets caught using steroids and the media flies right over it. There is zero proof against Bonds, and the story won't go away because the media won't let it. Armstrong faces similarly indirect and highly public charges as Bonds, yet the nation still reveres him...

The bar you have to stand in front of to measure up as a professional athlete in this country has to be greased daily because of the use it gets sliding up and down...

What NFL player got caught using steroids?

Shawn Merriman?

I think that is who he was referencing, but technically, he just failed a NFL drug test. There are many substances on that list that are not steroids. The NFL does not release the information telling what substance they wre found to have been using, I believe.

Shawn Merriman?
Yes, and I fired off before bothering to remember that he explained that away. Google reminds me of the Saints' Hollis Thomas as well. Also explained away, but suspended none the less.

I'll retract these guys from my argument, but I still think there is a double standard at work in the previously mentioned 'court of public opinion', and the media ought to own up to that...

Speaking of swine, that was considerate of Bonds to drag his teammate into this, for no apparent reason.

I read today where Bonds is saying that the initial reports were incorrect and that Mark Sweeney had nothing to do with the situation.

Reports were incorrect in that he never mentioned Sweeney's name or incorrect because he should have not mentioned Sweeney's name?

That part is a little unclear to me. I can't figure out if he is apologizing to Sweeney for implicating him or saying the reports were wrong.
