Border war smack

Weve still got quite a bit of summer ahead of us, but fans on both sides of the Georgia-South Carolina divide are already in midseason smack-talking form.
Weve had more than a few postings from the wrong side of the Savannah River on the Blawg exhibiting a newfound Cockiness, apparently based on the belief that the onetime Prince of Darkness is overdue to reclaim his dominance over the Dawgs and that UGAs uncertainty over QB and the loss of offensive line starter Daniel Inman for that game makes a Carolina win this year a virtual lock.
This really irritates my hometown buddy Carl, whos urged me to write about how obnoxious all the South Carolina fans are becoming. After all, who do they think they are, Vols fans? Or worse, Gator fans? As Carl puts it: They may have Spurrier, but South Carolina is NOT Florida. Theyre not that good and they lost a LOT of players from a year ago particularly on the defensive side. I think this game will be decided by the Bulldog defense and the trio of backs. The defense is gonna surprise some folks, and the TBs could have big years.
Carl feels (and hes not alone) that the unsettled quarterback situation at UGA is being overplayed by fans and the media. Early in the season, he says, the QBs main function will be getting the ball into the hands of the backs. Maybe a pass or two to keep the defenses honest.
Thats why well probably see the experienced QB, Joe T., starting. He doesnt have to win the game; he just has to not lose it by giving the ball away.
Carl figures if Georgia can handle South Carolina, then the Dawgs have about a month to sort out the QB situation before hitting the serious portion of the schedule.
As for South Carolina, Carl says his business partner put it best: Its a coaches graveyard.
Man, not even July 4th yet and the trash talking is already in high gear! One things for sure: Spurrier has injected new life into the border rivalry.
