Pardon the Christian reference - no disrespect intended - but I keep thinking how something rare and wonderful has happened with this team..something, dare I say, poetic and spiritual? Not in any religeous sense or anything like that, but it's something that transcends sports I feel, into the realm of literary inspiration..a beautiful story, and one for the ages, imo.
I also keep thinking about 2nd generation moral victories..how a team like USCw today is probably thinking and saying, "Wow, we creamed the team that knocked off Kansas!" I realize, although we ourselves have many times resorted to such self-soothing techniques, nothing could be further from the truth and especially in this case. Not only did they not beat the team that beat the no. 1 team in the land..they didn't even play us, if you know what I mean.
Of course, I realize that beautiful scripts don't always have the happiest possible ending (reference George Mason, e.g.), and indeed, it will likely be hard for this team to ride the emotional steam engine that led them to that profound victory last night, throughout the remainder of the season and beyond. Soon it will be back to the necessary, key ingredients that, in the final analysis, must always be a part of consistently winning programs..hard work and discipline.
But something to which words cannot do justice did certainly happen at TBA last night, and for this Vol fan - and I would imagine for the team as well - it is incredible for the moment to reflect on the beauty of something so rare and special..and to imagine the possiblities. And to be sure, along with hard work and discipline, a dream fits nicely into the equation. It is enough for the moment to believe that, on that floor last night, our team was...born again.
Can I get a witness?
