We are over rated. Urban had the worse team, and won the football game. Why? We have 2 kids that beat us, and both of them play special teams.

After watching USC play, Why don't we put a quality playmaking receiver as the punt returner. Reggie Bush is back there for USC, why wouldn't you want another skill player back their to make something exciting happen???

Bottom line is that we got what we deserved, and we'll get a L this week also. :banghead:

That's just the problem though . . . Who would you call the quality playmaking receiver?

It's the blocking on the kick return or the lack blocking I should say. At least Hannon tried to jump over the pile of players instead of running straight into it.

How about Riggs? It can't be any worse!

I mean 2 kids got us beat last weekend, along with poor offensive play selection. The punt fumble is one thing, then he got juked out of his pants in the open field by Chris Leak on a big run he made to get it to 16-7....then they baited our freshman into a boneheaded fake punt. Play field position, and we have an excellent shot at winning...

We seem to always choke when we lose control in the Florida games! :banghead:

The biggest play of the game was when it was 3rd and about 2 or 3 from around midfield either late in the 3rd or early in the 4th. We had success on 3 straight occasions (7-8 yard runs) running left. We run right, and into the teeth of their defense. BALLGAME!

Hefney could do it, except the problem is our coverage is awful. To make something happen, your blockers must give you an open lane, and if you watch us return punts, there are already like 4-5 guys from the other team there to greet Hefney as he catches the ball. The fact that it's Reggie Bush back returning kicks for USC is only part of the equation; USC has great coverage as well, and that's how Bush returns all those kicks for TD's and good field position.

USC is ungodly...they are quite possibly the best college football team of all time. The way they mow their opponents down and make them look stupid reminds me of the Nebraska dynasty in the 90's...they deserve all the kudos and accolades they get. From coaches to players to giving it 100% for 4 quarters, USC is what being the best is all about. Based on what has happened so far this season, there is no one in Div I that can even come close to competing with them.

When was the last time Tennessee has had a player like Reggie Bush and Devin Hester on thier football teams? I personally haven't seen one in quite sometime. Why is that? They recruit great players out of high school why can't they make the plays a Bush or Hester can I don't understand it. I would love to see UT get someone that can come into a game and single handedly take control and put points on the board by pure speed and athletism.

I would make that statement a little differently. UTK has a top 3 defense in the country (That is the lowest total yardage Florida will have all season). UTK has top 5 "talent" on offense, but they have not figured out how to play up to that potential yet. As for me, I hope they figure out how before next weeks game at LSU. The play calling and execution are both to blame on offense. Combine that defense and that offense with the fact that we don't even have a top 75 speical teams unit and what you have is a formula to get beat by inferior teams. That is what happened on saturday. But, let me tell you by the end of the season our defense will be considered one of the best 3 in the country...and maybe even the #1 defense in the country.

Offense has got to start showing up! :cross:  If the Vols don't put up 21 against LSU and hold them to 17, forget it! :bad:

If we get 21...you won't give them 20????
If they score 17....will 18 be enough????

in the short run we are 5 star team with a .5 head.

i've seen better play calling in my cousin's grass cutter leauge. geez.

when are we gonna stop running that freak'n bubble screen? Or better yet, can we get our WRs to block?

ps. how many TOTAL touches did corey anderson get? how many touches did fayton, meachem, swain, hannon, get?

riggs under 20 rushes will not get it done. it barely worked for UAB.

Sorry to agree with you, but you're right. I'm afraid this team may go belly up and finish 6-5 or worse.

Or you could sit on the wagon, be patient and hope to God it moves.

For a great example of how special teams should work, look at Virginia Tech. They put so much emphasis on them that head coach Beamer is the special teams coach. Thats why they call the special teams plays "Beamer Ball".

A great offense will give you points, a great defense will stop your opponent but special teams win or lose the game!

I doubt it... I think our talent alone can save us from having any more than 4 losses this season.

I would say 9-2 or 8-3 at this point, but the thing that baffles me is that there is absolutely no consistent approach to the offense. When I played in my younger days, I was a QB/LB. I think I know a little bit about a consistent game plan and we never seem to put one together.

It's like we always have some kind of random approach with a bit of this and then a bit of that and then we try this and then we try that. If I had to describe our offense to anyone right now I would just have to say it is totally unpredictable on any given play because we have no consistency and no continuity from series to series, quarter to quarter, or even game to game.

Every Saturday I just wonder what we'll pull out of the hat that day. I know that the bubble pass will certainly be there more than it should, but other than that, ??????????????????????????????????????????????

I've seen our defense play and I've seen LSU's offense play. If we lose it will be 7-3, or 10-6 or something becuase LSU will not be able to score more than 10 points against our defense. Of coarse thats assumign we don't have to factor in another 7-10 points LSU could score against our special teams.

The good news out of Knoxville was 7 coaches on ST in yesterdays practice. I would expect the same for today. :aggressive:

And what bugs me is we were a 3-loss team last season (2 losses, if you want to look at it that way). This team is so much more talented on paper. I mean, let's be honest we all knew that we would probably drop one between Florida and LSU. Maybe even both. It's just the truth. But at this point in the season, I would expect a good coach to at least win out. And it shouldn't be that hard, I mean every top SEC team has some sort of hugely exploitable weakness.

Florida is still getting used to their offense.
LSU has a terrible secondary and questionable pass offense.
Georgia has no passing game whatsoever.
Bama cannot protect their backfield.

I think expect is too strong of a word, but I don't think it would be unreasonable to think Fulmer, being the great coach he is should go undefeated through the rest of this season.
