From ESPN's Pat Forde - "The Dashies"

Bounce-Back Of The Year

"Larry Coker bit the dust, but two other coaches with national championship rings entered this season on the griddle and lived to tell about it: Tennessee's Phil Fulmer and Michigan's Lloyd Carr (35). Give this award to Carr for going 11-1 after making some significant program changes in the offseason."

All three were on the "hot seat" after last year. Two survived one did not. Too bad for Coker.

I hate the fact that we even had to be considered for this award. Here's to hoping that we never have another season like '05

This raises an interesting question, if UT has went 6-6 like Miami would Fulmer had been fired the same as Coker?

Coker's coming off of a 9-3 season last year. He's never gone 5-6 like UT did last year. However, I'm sure that UT could have won only 3 or 4 games this year and you would still have OrangeSquare and a lot of others on here saying that our team was young, we had a lot of injuries, and Fulmer deserves another shot because he won a national championship at UT back in the Stone Age.

Well, Tennessee is 9-3 now. Maybe you'll be lucky enough for Tennessee to go 6-6 next season and we'll be like Alabama, looking for a new coach. That'd just make you pee yourself with joy I am sure. :eek:k: :ermm:

LOL! I typed the edit above before I saw that you responded. You're very predictable, OrangeSquare.

i can't speak for anyone else, but I don't want fulmer to fail... I just don't want to sit in mediocrity because of him. if we go 6-6 next season though he better be gone

I think 6-6 must be an unlucky number....Coker went 6-6 and goodby.....Shula went 6-6 and adios!! Good thing for Fulmer that 2005 was a eleven game season!!!:)

When he...say goes 10-2 ....will you leave then? Cause 9-3 and a 4 game improvement is just terrible.

I would think yes and Cutcliff be the new coach but that didnt happen luckily:)

If adding Cutcliffe to the staff only improved the Vols' record by one game, Mike Hamilton is not a big enough idiot to make him the head coach.

You're right. If he had managed to scrape together one more win, he would have been gone for sure. Well, I guess that only comes into play at a university that has high standards and demands good results when they're paying a head coach multi-millions of dollars per year.

i'm assuming GA doesn't want me to go down this road in this thread so i'm not

As far as I'm concerned . . . Go down that road all you want to as long as you are debating the facts.

It's not the debate itself that gets old, it's reading the same personality conflicts over and over again that bores everyone to death.

:cray: He was a good MOD, shame it came to this; and so young....unlike a lot of us he might have lived long enough to see another SEC Championship!

His heart's still beating, I'm sure he'll atleast make it until the next backhanded, sarcastic shot at Fulmer anyway.

R.I.P. :salute:
