He more or less made all the calls this year and there 6-6.But they are young on both sides of the ball,so who knows really how good Fisher will be.IMO he better make an awesome DC hire to keep his dfensive recruits happy.

I meant Fisher made most of the calls this year.

Sources: Florida State coach Bobby Bowden to announce retirement Tuesday - ESPN

I haven't followed this situation closely and so I have no idea but I can't imagine that the FSU fanbase is very excited about Jimbo Fisher being the new head coach... just seems unexciting... same old same old. Does anyone know the general opinion down there?
Kinda like Pettibon after Gibbs for one year and Wade Houston getting one year after his son left. Gotta do it for integrity reasons but pretty much its expected to be delaying the inevitable major change.

If what you're saying is true, this will be a long, very frustrating year for FSU fans- would drive me nuts.

Oh well, let the Florida talent find greener pastures in Knoxville!

Gus Coogler lives 150' from my house. I guess I should just go up there and see him. For those of you who don't know Gus he has real inside to FSU. Gus is Jimbo's father-in-law, he knows the real story. I'll trust my source.

Sorry. I was late on this one. I honestly thought they were going to give him one more year. Those Coach in Waiting situations aren't working so well.

The way this has gone down really makes me feel for Coach Bowden. You do something you love at a place you love for so long, and now everyone tells you are too old to do it anymore. What is he supposed to do now, just curl up die? I'm sure part of him was just hanging on as long as he could because coaching gave him purpose in his old age to get up and do something everyday, without it he probably fears he won't be able to go much longer. I hope he is able to find something in his life be it family, fishing, writing, traveling, something that keeps him going and this doesn't start a spiral of health problems etc. Truly a sad day for football fans everywhere IMO.

Good bye to one of college football's best coaches. Sad to see his career end like this.

I'm not. He should have left when he was still in good graces. Putting a record ahead of the school is low.

I would absolutely lol if Fisher is canned this week. Won't happen, but would be funny.

They should have straight up told him he has to leave if they wanted him out. The figurehead thing they were trying to pull is embarrassing.

crossing my fingers on that one. Initially i would've thought no way. Bowden seems more of a no nonsense kind of guy. But now that Cowher does the nfl on cbs it wouldnt' surprise me.

A Legend of the sport indeed..hate to see him go out like he is and not on his own terms..he has earned it and the utmost respect from this rival fan here. I wish him the best in his future.:hi:

As a 35 yr FSU fan I am embarrassed by what the President and AD did to Bowden. A PRESS release......are you kidding me? FSU was talking about dropping the football program in 1974. Bobby comes in and turns them into a national power by 1979!!!!!!

I agree that he should have stepped down a few yrs ago...but...to have one of the top 5 coaches to ever live treated this way is a disgrace! FSU should know better. Fire the damn president!!!!

Bowden has a special place in my heart. Several yrs ago he spoke at a FCA dinner in Jackson, TN, where I was living. I had tickets to the event, but decided not to go. My grand-father died 2 days before and was buried the night of the event. My grand-father was a huge Nole fan and was going to go with me. My grand-mother told me to go alone...so I went. Bowden found out what had happened through the head of FCA (a friend of my family). He came over to me before dinner and invited me to sit with him at his table. He was the most gracious gentelman I have ever met! We takled for hours about FSU and Golf. What a class man. We still keep in touch a time or two a year. He even called my wife on the 10 yr aniv of the night she and I met (FSU/Nebraska Jan 1, 1994 Orange bowl).

He will be missed on the sidelines......He deserved better from FSU!
